Yeah, maybe that's what happened with Pinkie's hair. It just seems weird for Pinkie's puffed-up hair to be as meticulously done as Rarity's. But then again, it's Pinkie.
Oh, Equestria, we stand on guard for thee!A cover that actually has something to do with the story-arc as far we can tell.
You there! Check out my Youtube Channel! The power of Ponies compel you!Hmm...that looks like something out of the "Winter Wrap Up" episode. I wonder if there will be storylines taking place in the winter!
Oh, Equestria, we stand on guard for thee! And for those that haven't heard, the writers are planning each story arc, at least of those planned already, to flow and have about as much stuff in them as a two part episode of the show and be 4 issues long. So each issue is about 1/2 of an episode as far as the content in it goes.
Yes, I like that one! From the looks of it, Rainbow Dash must have decided to follow Mare Do Well's example and put on a superhero outfit. She must have had to talk Fluttershy into becoming one, too. Still, there is a nice Yin-Yang dynamic being shown there, don't you thing?

Oh, Equestria, we stand on guard for thee! And now we have the Jetpack Comics exclusive variant cover◊, limited to only 750 copies.
So, IDW is doing a Cross Through event in January involving Mars Attacks. Basically, Mars Attacks Transformers! Mars Attacks Ghostbusters! Mars Attacks Popeye! Mars Attacks Zombies vs. Robots! Mars Attacks KISS! Yes. The Band Kiss. I didn't even know they had a comic, though if you're gonna make a comic series out of any band I guess Kiss is the way to go...
No, My Little Pony isn't part of this event, however there's also a Mars Attacks collection coming out in Jan and the cover features Mars Attacks... Human Applejack? The other IDW comics are already making shout outs to ponies!

You there! Check out my Youtube Channel! The power of Ponies compel you!Guess that's the closest thing we'll get to a canon humanization.
"i'm like the pimpmaster hustledaddy of all snippy bookshrews" -Dave StriderEither that, or that's Megan from way back in Generation 1!
A possible storyline for the comics that just occurred to me...you remember those dragons from "Dragon Quest"? Spike really got on their bad side at the end, and even though he escaped their wrath, they might return.
How so? Well, he made the mistake of telling them that he hails from Ponyville. We don't know for sure if they know where that is, but what if they do know or come across it? That's some prime Fridge Horror that could be made into a storyline for the comics right there!
Oh, Equestria, we stand on guard for thee!Checking the list again and turns out the cover artist is Matt Frank! He mostly does Godzilla and Transformers, been following the guy for a long time. He's awesome. He's done a little bit of pony fanart, wonder if he'll do a variant cover?
You there! Check out my Youtube Channel! The power of Ponies compel you!According to the version of the list on IDW's own website, MLPFiM Issue #3 will have a variant cover by J. Scott Campbell.
Also, might as well post the issue's synopsis (it's been linked to in this thread, but hadn't directly been posted here yet):

Well, that just sounds epic.
Reaction Image RepositoryWait, has anyone ever said where the Changeling Kingdom was? I assumed that it was down south in a desert region that makes me think of Mexico for some reason. I could be wrong, but I hope the comics answer the question about its location!
Oh, Equestria, we stand on guard for thee!Looks like we know what Issue #1's "mystery" cover is now: a Ghost Variant cover featuring Princess Luna. Editor Bobby Curnow previously mentioned that Luna won't be appearing in the first four-issue Story Arc outside of one of the covers; guess this is that one cover.

The editor did respond with "No comment" when asked, though I'm sure Luna being an Issue #1 variant isn't a stretch of the imagination. They want to start off big (which is why we're getting so many variants), why not throw the biggest Ensemble Dark Horse of them all on a special cover?
You there! Check out my Youtube Channel! The power of Ponies compel you!OK, now my curiosity's piqued. What did he say that was so bad it had to be thumped?

"i'm like the pimpmaster hustledaddy of all snippy bookshrews" -Dave StriderGiven I've never seen him in any pony threads i'm going to assume some ranting anti-brony spiel, but yeah I'm kind of curious myself
The wiki may never know.
In other news, the Rainbow Dash cover has been revealed! Guest starring Tank (he's got the groove) and Apple Bloom.

I have to say that Pinkie Pie having Rarity's hairstyle seems...odd. I wonder what the story is behind that?
Maybe her hair ended up like that the way Twilight's hair did in "The Cutie Pox".
