IIRC, the good end still has you become a werewolf, but you tell the townspeople of Thraben about it and they make sure to lock you up at night so you don't kill anyone. Which still sort of sucks, but bear in mind what happens to the werewolves when Avacyn comes back and it's not too awful.

Yup, just got it. You have to do everything perfectly. You make it through with exactly one life, and FATEFUL HOUR saves you.

[up]There's actually a few ways to get to the "good" end. You have to be low enough in life to trigger fateful hour when you got to Thraben but still be alive.

You know, after I just now finished Jade Empire once again, I'd like to see a return to Portal Three Kingdoms someday.

I think Magic sets based on RL literature are weird, but I'd certainly be cool with a set on a Chinese-inspired plane.

I guess it is.

[up] Mongseng, perhaps? I'd like that. I mean, we've had our Chinese set but it was all...weird, and thoroughly lacking in actual fantasy.

I say, old boys (and girls if there are any).

Would any of you be willing to consider a ripping opportunity to engage in fisticuffs?

Trying to figure out how to break Talrand. EDH of course.

I know it involves counterspells and as much Phyrexian mana as possible.

Cantrips are good. Play as many as possible. Phy mana seems less critical in EDH when you've actually got a reasonably long timeframe in the average game. I'd rather play cantrips and draw spells so as to get as much advantage as possible out of Talrand.

I've been meaning to put together Talrand EDH myself for a while, but lately I haven't been in much of an EDH mood.

I guess it is.

Cantrips. Gotcha.

It's a pity Arcane Melee sucks so hard.

Countermagic and cantrips, that's Talrand. Worth noting that those counterspells that are cheap due to only countering something that targets your stuff are actually decent for Talrand.

Also, you can run Lunar Mystic to help yourself out, assuming you actually want to touch that card at all.

Arcane Melee does NOT suck! It's a lynchpin in my IRL white/blue defensive control deck. I can play counters and white blocking spells all day once I get that out. Archeomancer is the other lynchpin. :D

By the way, are there any planeswalker cards in Duels 2013?

Yeah, no, Arcane Melee sucks. By the time it's out, you already have more than enough mana to power your spells.

Yes, you're probably not having trouble PLAYING them, but it lets you play more. When I can drop counterspells for one mana, safe passage for one mana, etc, that makes me MUCH more combat effective.

This discussion is bringing back memories of the AVR prerelease where three out of my six rares were Lunar Mystic, Arcane Melee, and Infinite Reflection. You can probably guess how well that turned out...

Also good for Talrand EDH: Favorable Winds and Snapcaster Mage (of course). And don't forget Rewind, that has some nasty potential to it.

Snapcaster Mage is pretty much the only creature worth playing in Talrand. (But then I would say that.)

I guess it is.
