Dario getting casually murked by Skurge is fucking hilarious and a perfect sendoff for the character. Like you could literally hear Ewing going "okay, this joke's gone long enough, better cut it off before it gets too obnoxious". Thor thinking in cliches (including the classics of "well that just happened" and "he's right behind me isn't he?") was also great. Keep is a typically wonderful deep cut pull from Ewing too. Can't wait for the next issue.

For Blood Hunt, I gotta say, the whole thing with the Darkforce users being utilized for the blackout spell is really cool and inventive usage of that particular piece of lore. And in a usual example of McKay being a continuity master in the vein of Ewing, the list of Darkforce-wielders shown or mentioned is so thorough that it's making me think that the few not brought up will become significant later. The art is absolutely gorgeous too, to no surprise; any book with Pepe Larraz and Marte Garcia on art duties is a must-buy just for the art alone, if nothing else. The Krakoan Age had already cemented them as my favorite X-Men artists of the modern age.

I do enjoy evil teams, Bloodcoven certainly gave us some fun action scenes. Like reading a battle manga and they introduce the new villain group for an arc always fun.

Very curious whats going on with Blade, wondering if yeah its tying into how his recent ongoing stuff where his new vampire powers and determination to defeat has Adana has made him enter a new realm of darkness than he has before.

Blade's just too busy killing vampires to be up to date on which retcon is in effect on the "did Wanda do M-Day alone or was she manipulated" front.

Alright already seeing someone speculate what the big twist of Blood Hunt will be.

The true villain might be Varnae an Atlantean sorcerer. There are several tells to this, Blade using Atlantean sorcery to enact the spell to blot out the sun, Bloodstorm's involvement in the Bloodcoven who is a hydra clone of Dracula that followed Varnae, and Blood recently ingested the blood of Dracula who himself previously ingested the blood of Varnae to gain his powers.

Well I could understand and appreciate it. Despite being the actual progeinitor of vampires. Varnae's basically a Big Bad Wannabe who gets totally overshadowed by Dracula. Having him finally get a shot in the limelight would be nice

That sounds pretty probable, especially given it's a very deep-cut pull, which McKay loves to do.

He isn’t really a Big Bad Wannabe. His issue was specifically that he was tired of being a vampire Big Bad. That is how Dracula stepped up to the role instead. Varnae told him it was his problem now and then stepped into sunlight.

Anybody know what Rage is doing lately?

Also, where does he rank, strength wise?

Come to think of it, who's the lowest on The Big Guy totem pole?

Like, we know stuff like Hulk, Thor and Juggernaut at somewhere at the top, guys like The Thing are slightly lower, and then there's a bunch of other dudes at nebulous points in the who beats who rankings (like I'm not sure where Colossus stands on that list to be honest).

And lets not forget the ultimate rule of comics: the person who wins is who the author wants to win, so that means anybody can beat anybody under the right circumstances, but I'd still like to see if there's some kind of tier list.

And of course, know where Rage stands.

There was a tier list in like old issues of Spider-Man, but as they introduced more and more characters there seemed less of a point of doing stuff like that.

Apparently he's turned heel in the current Nightthrasher mini though I don't know the context for it.

Well, he's got the right look for turning heel. He's always looked like a wrestler.

It's frankly less of a heel turn and more just the logical conclusion of what Rage has always been like, which is to say, an angry wannabe social activist of the sort who mostly seems to just use it as an excuse to be mad and break shit.

I haven't read it but from what I hear Night Thrasher is a sad decon story.

Dwayne is all sad and miserable wondering if his life has been a waste as his works/company is possibly in ruins.

It is a pretty downbeat story in mood. It's basically using Dwayne's situation - being plucked from Stamford's destruction and "out-of-continuity" for years before coming back and finding the world moved on without him - as a commentary on characters like the OG New Warriors who fall into Comic-Book Limbo for whatever reason after periods of success, and is by extension a sequel to prior New Warriors comics exploring how the various members have all moved on to other things, for better or for worse.

Not a fan of the art, at least the character designs.

Like this panel.

That's Sillhouette next to him, and turns out she's half-Cambodian which you wouldn't tell looking at her.

For some reason she and Dwayne have the exact same haircut and even similar facial structure.

They do seem to have forgotten that.

But if other New Warriors are appearing, at least it's something after the utter disaster that was Outlawed.

It's nice to see what the others are doing as well. Nova is in Space being a boss, and Firestar is a full on X-man now, but what has Speedball been up to since he started heroing again? And what about Justice, who's a mutant, but was never used during the Krakoa era.

Hopefully, Dwayne can come out of this in a better place where maybe he and his fellow warriors might be usable again.

Bit of a shame since Ewing was portraying him as a badass scientist.

But i do appreciate the current writer acknowledging Dwayne returning in Ewing's Contest of Champions.
