@Loni Jay and Fallen Legend

Yay, thanks for doing it. I liked that both of you tried different perspectives.

I decided to go ahead and try making some requests. First up is Qrlil, who some of you might recognize from the Character Development Threads in Writer's Block. Description, which I can add to if anyone wants:

Female qrtxian (kwur-tex-ian, if it matters), a species resembling The Greys with some reptilian characteristics. Large, red, lizard-like eyes. Stands about 5'5. Long fingers, more flexible then a human. No hair. Normally wears monastic-like robes in white or pastel colors.

If there's any way you can give her a "feminine" appearance without including obvious sexual characteristics (i.e. there should be no Non-Mammal Mammaries or the like), it would be good, but it's not essential.

Also, so as not to be all take and no give here, if anyone wants a drawing of their character in stick-figure style, I'd be willing to take requests, although it might take some time and I'd have no real idea how to upload them to the internet.

@Snowy Foxes, Fallen Legend, Yuval, Mr AHR: You make me feel all fuzzy and warm.

@Snowy Foxes: You really have an unfair advantage, having seen Alice's delightful breed of fun in action.

@Fallen Legend: An excellent start, though I'd be obliged if you did a bit of trimming. (My bad for not mentioning that earlier.) The delightful Psychotic Smirk, on the other hand, can stay.

[up]Heh! I was worried when I saw the content filter, 'til I noticed it was "gore". Otherwise, that would've been... weird.

You're the second one to give her a Psychotic Smirk, which really does fit her more than the Slasher Smile I usually imagine. And thanks for paying attention re: assets, or lack thereof. :P

[up]And I was beginning to worry nobody noticed the bloodstains! Never thought about her shoes, though. Boots are a pragmatic touch.

Once more, thank you all for reminding me why I have not yet built a super weapon capable of shattering all reality! (Well, aside from the cost and time it would take. You'd be amazed at the price of the materials involved, when you can find them at all...)

I notice that nearly all the requests have been for pictures of humanoid characters. This one's for those of you who'd like to try something different: not so much a request, as ideas thrown out to the artists in this thread.

The city of Sophronia is made up of two half-cities. In one there is the great roller coaster with its steep humps, the carousel with its chain spokes, the Ferris wheel of spinning cages, the death-ride with crouching motorcyclists, the big top with the clump of trapezes hanging in the middle. The other half-city is of stone and marble and cement, with the bank, the factories, the palaces, the slaughterhouse, the school, and all the rest. One of the half-cities is permanent, the other is temporary, and when the period of its sojourn is over, they uproot it, dismantle it, and take it off, transplanting it to the vacant lots of another half-city.

And so every year the day comes when the workmen remove the marble pediments, lower the stone walls, the cement pylons, take down the Ministry, the monument, the docks, the petroleum refinery, the hospital, load them on trailers, to follow from stand to stand their annual itinerary. Here remains the half-Sophronia of the shooting-galleries and the carousels, the shout suspended from the cart of the headlong roller coaster, and it begins to count the months, the days it must wait before the caravan returns and a complete life can begin again.

If you choose to believe me, good. Now I will tell how Octavia, the spider-web city, is made. There is a precipice between two steep mountains: the city is over the void, bound to the two crests with ropes and chains and catwalks. You walk on the little wooden ties, careful not to set your foot in the open spaces, or you cling to the hempen strands. Below there is nothing for hundreds and hundreds of feet: a few clouds glide past; farther down you can glimpse the chasm's bed.

This is the foundation of the city: a net which serves as passage and as support. All the rest, instead of rising up, is hung below: rope ladders, hammocks, houses made like sacks, clothes hangers, terraces like gondolas, skins of water, gas jets, spits, baskets on strings, dumb-waiters, showers, trapezes and rings for children's games, cable cars, chandeliers, pots with trailing plants.

Suspended over the abyss, the life of Octavia's inhabitants is less uncertain than in other cities. They know the net will last only so long.

In Ersilia, to establish the relationships that sustain the city’s life, the inhabitants stretch strings from the corners of the houses, white or black or gray or black-and-white according to whether they mark a relationship of blood, of trade, or authority, agency. When the strings become so numerous that you can no longer pass among them, the inhabitants leave: the houses are dismantled; only the strings and their supports remain. From a mountainside, camping with their household goods, Ersilia’s refugees look at the labyrinth of taut strings and poles that rise in the plain. That is the city of Ersilia still, and they are nothing.

They rebuild Ersilia elsewhere. They weave a similar pattern of strings which they would like to be more complex and at the same time more regular than the other. Then they abandon it and take themselves and their houses still farther away.

Thus, when travelling in the territory of Ersilia, you come upon the ruins of the abandoned cities, without the walls which do not last, without the bones of the dead which the wind rolls away: spiderwebs of intricate relationships seeking a form.

All three from Italo Calvino's Invisible Cities.

[up]That's... pretty darn true to how I think of her, actually. The green robes are a bit jarring (I've tended to associate the qrtxians with the blue-purple-red spectrum), but that's an extreme nitpick.

Yes, though I can't put my finger on why - maybe it's the vaguely "eyelash"-like markings around the eyes?

(No, this is not a shameless bump).
