She probably joined the Yakuza after their divorce, right? She had Yusuke really young, when she was 14, and he mentions that Yusuke would cry and jump on him when he would hit her. That was when Yusuke was 3, meaning Atsuko was only 17 at the time. They probably got divorced around then, then Atsuko joined the Yakuza, and that's why she's not even a little afraid of him nowadays.
I mean, besides the fact that Yusuke could destroy the world.
I just always thought it was weird how Yusuke's mom was completely cut out of the story after the initial two arcs.

What other term would you suggest? I don't think it's classist, but I also can't think of any alternate term to use, classist or otherwise, for someone who only watches the anime and didn't read the manga.

I am anime only with most anime and not really offended by that term but that's just me.
I really do love that it's very thinly veiled that she's a "Yak" in the manga and everybody is just so "whatever" about it.
