He's not dunking them (I think) but saying Batman and Superman are about the law and the Status quo....

...Actually, it does kinda seem like low key dunking (like it's not meant to be an insult, but at the same time, considering how many feel about the law and the status quo, it can easily be re-interpreted as that).

It's good that King is searching for that hook for Diana, but I'm not sure if it's fair to say she's the only Rebel. Batman is a vigilante, which is already something of a Rebel (and he's more about trying to make sure people don't suffer as he did), and Superman can't just change the world on a whim, because he doesn't want to look like he's taking over the whole planet.

[up]One might think that argument foe Superman applied even more to an ambassador/heir to another nation (at least for changes outside that nation), but I'm way put of touch with current canon, so I don't know if that's still her status.

Superman also started as a rebel in the Golden Age.

Tom King's Wonder Woman is a rebel. He writes the book I don't. His book is selling better than most other runs too, relative to the competition. It's his privilege to take the book in that direction, and it seems to be working.

Traditionally, Wonder Woman is not a rebel. She is a person who rebels, yes, but there's a difference. She starts out defying her mother but when she gets the job Diana falls back in line. That's consistent in every "main" continuity except New 52. New 52 Wonder Woman is a rebel! She takes rebel to it's logical conclusion by claiming the throne of Themyscira and making changes! But prior to Tom King, New 52 was the only precedent in the main book for the claim "Wonder Woman is a rebel".

Still, I'm not sure I even dislike it at this point. It's a weird approach, but whatever, it works. If I have to criticize King's run so far, I have to ask how Amazons Attack being a past event in this continuity even works? Circe, Ares and Hercules don't have their Post Crisis-Pre Flashpoint histories of villainy intact...so who kicked off the "original" Amazons Attack that made Sarge Steel hate Wonder Woman so much? Wonder Woman wasn't in position to do anything about The original Amazons Attack for most of it either, so why would a capable agent of presumably average intelligence irrationally hate her? Even if you can somehow write that all off on the lasso of lies, why are the amazons swearing by Hera all of the sudden? In a positive light no less? She's launched four campaigns against amazons in this continuity! Tom King can take the book in whatever direction, strange as it may be, but I reserve the right to point out where internal logic breaks down. Maybe that's not even on Tom King, but on his editor. Regardless I reserve the right to criticize the product where it doesn't line up with Rebirth/Infinite Frontier.

Game.co.uk did a research on the most searched superheroes by country. Wonder Woman is the most searched DC hero and the 2nd most searched after Spider-Man.

Huh, Canada searches for Captain America more than we do?

Also, India really likes Scarlet Witch, apparently.

Spider-Man is my favorite Marvel, in spite of Marvel Comics' best efforts to turn me on him, and Wonder Woman is one of my top two from DC, so by this metric I'm in good company.

I do agree the movie should have went with another actual Wonder Woman villain instead of Lord.

Yeah he's not very popular with Wonder Woman fans due to how that moment has negatively defined her and DC's attempts to slot him as a WW character cause of it.

Our own mileage may page for Wonder Woman already mentioned that comic book Maxwell Lord was redundant with Doctor Psycho and Veronica Cale already existing. I'll add Hypnota, Devastation and Wade Dazzle to that list. One good thing about Tom King's run is that with Sovereign hopefully no one will feel the need to even adapt Maxwell Lord into Wonder Woman again.

Tom King's Wonder Woman #9.

  • Diana is trapped in a hallucination by the Sovereign (I guess they found another way to restrain her after she broke free last issue). She talks with an imaginary version and they take some trips down memory lane like when Diana first met her pet Kanga Jumpaa and a mission she and Steve went on once.

  • We also get a homage to the (in)famous moment of Diana killing Max Lord in the form of Diana imagining killing the Sovereign in the same way.

  • Diana's ability to communicate with animals is also explored in... let's say unique way. She mentions talking to a rat while trapped in a dungeon and trying to make it leave her. Eventually, she succumbs to hunger and eats the rat. Later, his mate finds her and she confesses out of guilt. The rat doesn't hold it against her.

  • We switch back to the Sovereign's narration and it's established he has had Diana locked away for months. He goes to her cell and she tauntingly asks him what's next.

I've refined my head canon for bullet blocking.

1. Bullets and bracelets is her favorite game. She likes the sound of successfully deflected by bracelet bullets.

2. She has some measure of control of where these bullets go when she deflects them, as opposed to just letting them ricochet off of her body. This reduces the chances of casualties. Wonder Woman is not perfect, however. Sometimes someone gets hit by accident anyway.

3. Wonder Woman can't always tell if a plain old stick being used by a muggle isn't really a branch broken off of Yggdrasil, blessed or cursed by a god or daemon, coated in some undetectable drug or toxin, etc. You want her to take the time to examine every last slug coming out of the chamber? Better to be safe than sorry for her own sake as well.

I stand by my she's flexing on you theory.

Diana could just take the bullet, just like Clark does. But she deflects it with the bracelet to make it clear just how pointless trying to shoot Wonder-Woman is.

"Yes. I'm fast enough to knock a tiny object moving at the speed of sound out of the way. No, I don't even need to do it, but I am any way. Now why do you think you can win this fight? What else do you think I could do? Why haven't you surrendered yet?''

Bullets and Bracelets is Diana letting you know you're completely !@#$%-ed in the nicest way possible.

The Wonder Woman subreddit has been doing a competition to see which Emotional Spectrum Corps a WW character would best fit in.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_36_35.png

Circe - Green Lanterns

Dr. Psycho - Sinestro Corps

Hippolyta - Star Sapphires

Artemis - Red Lanterns

Diana - Blue Lanterns

Cheetah - Orange Lantern

Paula von Gunther - Indigo Tribe

Genocide - Black Lantern

White Lantern and Ultraviolet Spectrum are yet to be determined.

Rebirth Wonder Woman was kidnapped by and made into a Star Sapphire in what was probably the quickest case of Stockholm Syndrome ever, so I don't see why hope is her power ring. Love or compassion would be where I put her...I guess I'd just stick with love since she's been that already. Compassion I'd give to Sandsmark, hope to Hippolyta(or maybe Gaboymila).

Greed doesn't make a whole lot of sense to Rebirth/Infinite Frontier Cheetah. Post Crisis, definitely, New 52 certainly, but wrath is more Rebirth/Infinite Frontier Cheetah. Blue Snowman's the only rebirth Wonder Woman character I can think of for greed, outside Faruka II, who has mostly moved past it, and the obvious public domain characters...but Post Crisis Giganta and Angle Man were greedy so why not? Rebirth Circe and will is one I can actually see though. Nubia and Donna Troy would have been my go to choices but Circe's right up there with them. Doctor Psycho's not scary, when it comes to endangering the protagonist, but with psychic powers I guess fear's an alright fit for him. Life to Medusa for having three different lives, or maybe Echidna for birthing so much, or to Donna Troy because obvious joke.

Actually keep Artemis on Wrath. Repressed negative emotions is definitely a Rebirth Cheetah thing.
