A thread to discuss electric vehicles and hybrid technology. No politics, please.
Technology, commercial aspects and marketing are all on-topic.
- Companies (e.g. Tesla Inc.) are only on-topic when discussing their electric vehicle products and research, not their wider activities. The exception is when those wider activities directly impact (or are impacted by) their other business areas - e.g. if electric vehicle development is cut back due to losses in another part of the business.
- Technology that's not directly related to electric vehicles (e.g. general battery research) is off-topic unless you're discussing how it might be used for vehicles.
- If we're talking about individuals here, that should only be because they've said or done something directly relevant to the topic. Specifically, posts about Tesla do not automatically need to mention Elon Musk. And Musk's views, politics and personal life are firmly off-topic unless you can somehow show that they're relevant to electric cars.
Also, posting this late, so sorry for any misspellings I might have left in there.

What violence was planned against the property? Because if we're considering any protest where police are injured to be a terrorist attack then we've basically made the term so vague as to rob it of all meaning.
"Yup. That tasted purple."They were trying to force entry into the factory, considering that this is a group that previously committed arson against nearby power lines I think it’s reasonable to assume that they were planning to damage or destroy factory infrastructure.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ Cyran>this is a group that previously committed arson against nearby power lines
No. The arson attack on the power lines was carried out by a different far-left organisation calling itself the Volcano Group, not the Disrupt Tesla movement that carried out this protest.
"Yup. That tasted purple."My bad, I assumed there was only one group doing direct action against the factory. Yeah that does make the use of the term terrorism for this even less appropriate.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranSo basically this wasn't really terrorism but just a protest that got a bit violent.
Disgusted, but not surprisedLooks like it. And a bit of hyperbolic language.
"Yup. That tasted purple."Electrek, 05/13/2024: Tesla’s head of Cybertruck manufacturing is out
Renjie Zhu, director of manufacturing in charge of Cybertruck production recently left Tesla. It's not clear if he retired on his own or if he was one of those subjected to Tesla's recent round of layoffs.
The article notes he was also the guy in charge of Tesla’s highly Model 3 and Model Y production lines in Shanghai. So he was kind of a big deal.
Disgusted, but not surprisedIt helps that the F-150 is the cheapest option of the bunch, compounded that the Cybertruck being a fairly polarizing design and the Rivian being one of the most expensive options even after slashing its initial price.
There is the mention of the Silverado and Hummer E Vs but they are really pricey and GM's woes with the Chevy Bolt EV having a fairly salty 150m lawsuit and battery fire woes may have soured the reception of GM's E Vs. GM is behind the EV SUV/Light Truck sales by a pretty wide margin.

Inter arma enim silent legesLooking at the company's webpage, they are honest about Sodium Ion batteries not being able to match Lithium's energy density, but they think they can get good enough energy density for mass market models where cost and safety are more important.
There was an arson attack previously and it looks like several police were injured this time as part of an attempt to force entry into the factor to carry out violence against the property.
We’ve seen similar terrorism in favour of climate change in the U.K., with the repeated attack on ULEZ cameras in London, which are there to enforce a law aimed at improving air quality.
