So. Personal opinions on the main wiki aren't allowed, be they gushing or bashing. Now, bashing gets tolerated even less than gushing, and that makes sense; it leads to more flamewars.
But that doesn't mean we have to live with all the gushing either. This thread can serve as a center for keeping it in check. One function might be to alert people to pages that are really heavy in gushing, to the point that it's not just a quick fix and will need some assistance.
Speaking of Ganondorf, his character sheet has a view of those annoying "The" intensifiers in it.
"The Sorcerous Overlord in video games" and "The Eternal Evil".
Not only are they needlessly gushy but they only further bloat his page.
Currently I accidentally created the Hit Single Real trope without realizing there was already another similar trope named Hit Single, which is the exact same game (idk if this is the right place to talk about it)
YouTube | X-Tweet (DISCONTINUED)This thread is a better fit.

I suggest checking if it's salvageable and can be expanded into a proper, matter-of-fact description. For example, Characters.Street Fighter Ryu has a description about his famous Shotoclone fighting game playstyle in the last paragraph, so it's already covered and "The" is unnecessary.
Five Nights at Freddy's straight-up starts with "The Mascot Horror series." Also sounds like gushing. However... that stays and has it explained, right? I don't think that Mascot Horror can be applied elsewhere, it is one of the most obvious examples.

Denial is a weakness. A WEAKNESS.Would probably be more accurate to replace it with "The Trope Codifier for Mascot Horror"
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessSo, this is on Tomb Raider: Lara Croft:
The other Video Game Action Girl.
The other Adventurer Archaeologist.
Does this count as gushing?
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadAlso seems like shoehorning like the Dracula example i mentioned.
The fact that they ahve to mention "other" proves that it's a bad example of what is already a bad style of example writing.
(x5) It would be still better to replace it with an expanded paragraph about how Five Nights at Freddy's codified the genre and list notable works influenced by it if the game deserves credit. However, the page Franchise.Five Nights At Freddys is not very organized, so it needs some general recap of the series.
(x3) There're a lot more female characters in video games than that implies, even pre-Tomb Raider. It needs to go. Characters.Tomb Raider Lara Croft looks like it could use a more proper introduction, however.
I would like to ask if anyone familiar with the game could rewrite these sentences in the description to Final Fantasy IX:
Agree that a paragraph on how the franchise codified the Mascot Horror genre would be much better than a contentless "the X" sentence. (Having no experience of Five Nights at Freddy's, I can't contribute anything myself.)
Okay. I removed that from Lara's page.
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadThe description for VideoGame.Otogi Myth Of Demons has these paragraphs:
The game itself is wonderfully done. The environments are stunningly beautiful, not to mention downright eerie in some places. The music is based off traditional Japanese instruments, and offers one of the best examples of Soundtrack Dissonance in any videogames. The controls are simple and effective, and the combat both brutal and elegant. Indeed, it remains one of the only games to effectively combine Hack and Slash with Crouching Tiger style Wire Fu. The game also features destructible environments. If you can hit it (or hit an enemy into it), then you can probably break it. From buildings, to castle walls, to trees, and in some places even the floor, you can leave half a ton of rubble in your wake. Preferably with some enemy demons buried in there somewhere...
The demons that you fight are also deserving of mention as each is given descriptions that you can read before the levels, which not only tells you what to expect when fighting them but describes them in a way that is evocative of their origin from Japanese mythology.
and
Otogi 2 is an overall improvement; it looks better, has more content, and gives you five new unique characters to play as. Both games have often been lauded as two of the best if not the two best looking games on Microsoft's original console.
Are these salvageable in any way, or can they just be cut entirely?
Avatar by Butterscotch Arts. Used under license.Middle paragraph seems OK to keep since it's to the point, but I'd cut the rest.
Found this on Trivia.Steven Wilson:
- Attention Deficit Creator Disorder: HOLY CRAP. The guy had around eight projects, which only him working on four projects as of late (that is, his solo work, Blackfield, Bass Communion and No-Man), and that's not even going with working on remastering albums and such. Wilson is a very productive man.
Is this too gushy? Silver and gold, silver and gold
I'd say cut the first and last line, and maybe rewrite to sound less "recent."
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe. It doesn't come off as gushing to me but I think the final line and the opening sentence are word cruft (or at least the latter is) so I feel they can go.
I trimmed the gushing from VideoGame.Otogi Myth Of Demons.
Stories don't tell us monsters exist; we knew that already. They show us that monsters can be trademarked and milked for years.Western Animation has this for Invader Zim:
- An absolutely glorious example of this in Invader Zim: In the second episode, Bestest Friends, the titular invader attempts to befriend a human in order to appear more normal. Cue a dastardly montage of Zim abusing said friend set to the most ridiculously upbeat score of music possibly ever composed. It must be heard to be believed.

back lolMuch better!
I want to ask about the audience reactions Love to Hate and Evil Is Cool, because both just seem to exist to gush about villains viewers liked. It feels like something that’s more meant to exist on Sugar Wiki than the main TV Tropes wiki. After all, we don’t have a YMMV item called "Liked Hero" or anything.
I’m probably the only one who feels that way, but I thought I’d break the ice regarding them just to gauge how everyone else feels about them.

Thomas fans needed! Come join me in the the show's cleanup thread!I mean... Yeah. Of course we don't. Liking the hero is what you're supposed to do. But fans finding a villain genuinely cool is a little different.
It's not a perfect system, I mean Evil Is Sexy got disambig'd for reasons including that finding a villain hot isn't all that special. But I think there's a difference between "fans find a villain to be awesome" and "fans find a villain to be sexy", especially as many characters of all alignments are meant to be attractive.

(#1349) I think this really needs a separate thread to discuss since it has been going for months.
I created a thread here.
