General Mario Thread.

I'm surprised nobody's made a thread for this yet

Anyways, discuss anything related to the Mario franchise.

Since there's no specific thread for this yet, here's a Mario Kart gameplay video.

I noticed they went back to 8 racers. That should really cut down on the number of Spiny Shells in the races. Also, gliding looks cool.

Also, relevant. (The panel with Lakitu.)

Only 3 posts. Highly shocking, considering this is the Mario we're talking about.

My sis says there shouldn't be a Luigi's Mansion 2 since it doesn't seem like the first game sets up for a sequel, but I just really want Prince Peasley to be in Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Also, WTF Mario Party 9 outta nowhere

I love Super Mario Bros 3's learning curve/ level progression, and its Items. I really wish it got its own The Lost Levels game (i have a fetish for Master Quest games, apparently. The special world is my favorite part of Super Mario World ). I'm not touching Kaizo Mario, though. Fuck that thing.

'General Mario' would be a cool name for a Mario-themed RTS, but I'd prefer to play as Bowser commanding legions of koopas and goombas

Maybe as an RTS against Tatanga's invading forces?

I've never been much of a fan of RTS's (unless Pikmin and Little King's Story count), although I did have a somewhat similar idea for a Battlefront-type Mario game as a kid with several different factions like the Mushroom Kingdom, Donkey Kong Country, Bowser's Zone, Wario Land, etc.

I like the previews for the 3DS Mario game they gave. Looks like a 3D Mario with a "World #-#" gameplay instead of collectible star gameplay. I like both.

Is it strange that Rolling Coaster Galaxy is the only mission involving that ball that I have managed to beat without dying?

Super Mario Bros 2 and Super Mario Strikers should get spinnoffs that don't involve Mario characters. Arabs, Afghans or Indians, one of them should be an expy of Saddam Hussein with a police can and overalls.

Is it just me, or does Waluigi almost always get the best and coolest stages if he gets one in the spinoff games? Waluigi Pinball (both of them), Waluigi Stadium (MK:DD), Waluigi's Island (Mario Party 3), etc. have all been fan favorites in one way or another. The music rocks too.

Played a little Super Mario Land and Donkey Kong on my old-school Game Boy (I call it "the brick") today. Can't see why people prefer the first SML over the second. The controls feel off, to me. Six Golden Coins is much better in that regard. And it introduced Wario.

[up][up] Having some of the best and coolest stages and music helps a lot with averting Scrappyhood for me.

[up] Super Mario Land's gameplay and jump physics was wonky and strange, but not really bad. And it's one of the few Mario games that have primarily eastern inspired worlds. Some of the music, especially the cave music and world 4 music, were also awesome!

Is it just me or the "bouncy" levels are by far the most fun? Nothing like a good sequence of goomba stomping

My strategy is non existent

Count another one who prefers Super Mario Land 2 over the first. It was much more polished game, as Super Mario Bros three is to the first Super Mario Bros. I think most people just missed the Super Ball and Vehicles.

Oh and no Waluigi doesn't have the best levels, Bowser does.

I really love the mario world. Wish more games would explore it in depth than just the RPG games. Maybe we'll get a mario MMO someday! That would be hilarious.

Or something like this:

[up][up][up] Depends really, I prefer Waluigi as I think his levels have more variety in look and design, but the Bowser levels are always pretty cool though. I prefer the Rainbow Road levels to Bowser levels usually, but the Waluigi levels usually surpass the Rainbow Road levels in fun for me.

I have made "cups" in Mario Kart in a sense: I take the four racetracks I like the most and put them in order of which I would race first to last. Like this:

N64 Cup

  • DK's Jungle Parkway
  • Bowser's Castle
  • Banshee Boardwalk
  • Rainbow Road

Or this:

DS Nitro Cup

  • Waluigi Pinball
  • Tick Tock Clock
  • Airship Fortress
  • Rainbow Road

DS Retro Cup

  • GBA Luigi Circuit
  • GCN Mushroom Bridge
  • GBA Sky Garden
  • N64 Banshee Boardwalk

I even mixed the above two:

  • GBA Sky Garden
  • Tick Tock Clock
  • Airship Fortress
  • N64 Banshee Boardwalk

It's easy to create your own fun in Mario sports games.
