Hey guys after drawing I reaalized that I suck at the basics I don't even know what the basics are lol. Being self taugh and all... I didn't realise that one of the biggest reasons I am not progressing is becuase I lack the basic stuff ( Trying to run before crawling.

I was wondering if anyone could point me to what are the "basics" and if possible tutorials to the basics?

I only know that I should practice basic shapes(cube, sphere, etc) and persective (Currently practicing it :) It would be great if someone could point me to all the basic stuff I should be aware of and tutorials thanks It would help inmensly!!!

Get a small sketchbook you can carry around with you and practice sketching the people and things around you whenever you have downtime.

1) perspective 2) color 3) balance (shading) 4) proportion

these are the technical basics. Though I feel every artist needs to have a live anatomy class as well.

Hey hey slow down! This person's not gonna start out doing detailed anatomy studies and perspective and shading. Those are fundamental, yeh, but don't stress. Start out like the other postee said, drawing from life. What's the most important thing I feel is breaking your perceptions and drawing what really exists in front of your eyes. Always think to yourself: "Am I really trying to draw what it looks like, or am I drawing what I've always imagine it looking like?" Things look really funky once you start doing that, but that's a good thing!

Learning how to break things down into basic shapes. Start with simple objects which you can easily simplify: an orange is a circle with a star, an apple is a squished squircle with a stalk and perhaps a circle to show where the indent is, a jar is a super ellipse with an ellipse on top, etc. Then move onto more complicated objects, such as a bunch of flowers, or even simple compositions.

Draw lightly and loosely. Don't force the lines to be dark: you can go over it. Stiffness of lines is a common problem in beginners. I'd stick with simple graphite pencils at first; learning colour and digital art is a whole new bag of tricks.

Above all, get out there and draw!

I never said they have to enroll tomorrow. they asked a question and i answered them. they can learn these steps in so many ways. But you need to know where to go from your first victory.

go forth and conquer. have as much fun on the way!

Oh yes, and the quickest way to improvement is draw all the time. Every day! But yes, have fun!
