Surrealist artist who worked in Paris until the German occupation, when she fled to Mexico. She was also the lover of another important surrealist, Max Ernst.
Her work is full of animals◊ (she represented herself as a white horse◊), magic◊, alchemy◊, and Celtic and later pre-Columbian Mexican◊ mythology. She will be missed.
