Adblock plus (block out every ad frame you see)
Noscript (whitelist system in which you activate flash/javascript from only sites you like and leave ad websites blocked)

It depends. I've got it rigged so I don't see ads on youtube even if it's a twenty minute video. However, some sites go around it.
