For those who are not great fans of the Cycle, Impish Idea have a rather good article:

Everything Wrong With Eragon.

It is best read not taken seriously as criticism, but it is a cracking spork and laugh.

This was a really interesting series. Yeah, it had huge problems but I'm glad I read it. I can't believe it's been 5 years since book 4 came out and 10 years since the movie. Makes me feel old. sad

Thread necromancy ahoy.

New book announced, Murtagh, set to release in late 2023.

"MURTAGH transports readers into an electrifying adventure, with danger and intrigue around every corner. The world is no longer safe for Murtagh and his dragon, Thorn. An evil king has been toppled, and they are left to face the consequences of the reluctant role they played in his reign of terror. Now they are hated and alone, exiled to the outskirts of society. But when Murtagh discovers something wicked lurking in the shadows of Alagaësia, so begins an epic journey into lands both familiar and untraveled, where he and Thorn must use every weapon in their arsenal, from brains to brawn, to find and outwit a mysterious witch. A witch who is much more than she seems..."

Oh boy, TV Tropes' favorite punching bag is coming back.

...Okay, maybe that's a little much, but the consensus about this series on this site seems to have been pretty negative, so I don't know how optimistic I am about this one.

No, you were pretty spot on. It was the site punching bag. But honestly that says more about the site being younger and stupider back then than the quality of the series. It's a pretty average set of kids books, but they came out when being a critic meant being a sarcastic, nitpicking jerk and everyone wanted in on the action.

It was Star Wars in fantasy land, instead of space.

To be fair, there was a slight and steady improvement over the series, and some of the secondary characters are interesting. But is still feel like a fan fic instead of an original work.
