Two years.

No definitive timeline has been drawn up yet, however, due to the lack of concrete dates and times in the book.

For casting:

Roran: I'd say Christian Bale, but he might be too old by now.

Arya: the female Asgardian (what was her name) from Thor, maybe?

Brom: Get Jeremy Irons back. If he won't do it, Gary Oldman.

Galbatorx: Again, Gary Oldman is an appealing option. Though Galbatorix gets so little screen time that it might be a waste of such a good actor.

Samuel L. Jackson as the first Varden leader, maybe? And the woman who played Uhura in the new Star Trek film as his daughter perhaps.

Nah, Bale's an excellent actor but I don't really picture him as Roran (blame Equilibrium). Maybe a brawnier actor?

I think Bale is too old for the part.

Bale is definetely too old to play Roran. You'd need somebody younger for that....

I just imagined Robert Downey Jr. as King Orrin (mainly because he experiments and what not)

It was great :D

I want Martin Sheen to play Galby, just so he can give Eragon a Hannibal Lecture in a *hypothetical* fourth film

IT WOULD BE AWESOME

I think he'd be a better Roran. He's to big for Eragon.

I just feel that he would be much better suited for Roran. Especially given his weapon of choice.

I honestly doubt we'll ever see a second movie. Regardless of whether or not you personally like the series, today it's more or less regarded as a big ugly joke, and if an Eragon didn't make much money back in its heyday, producers are not going to take a chance with it / him today.

While I think interjecting a positive thread with naysaying is generally bad form, I feel inclined to insert some realism here.

As noted, Eragon as a film franchise had its shot and blew it. Its future prospects depend on how well the books are remembered and cherished, and that means that the books require cultural staying power. While I'm not going to argue with subjective value — given that, you know, it's complete asshattery to tell people not to like something for no reason — I think it's fairly obvious that there wouldn't be much audience interest in another go.

You can whine in the other thread. Look at the OP before you post.

I wasn't whining , but that other guy clearly was. I would have said the same for most anyone~

@NLK: How, exactly, is this undeserved? His novels sell well.

Meh.

His books are good entertainment, which is what most teens will look for and find. He chose a good demographic.

It seems stupid to us, but to his target demographic it's brilliant. And for that, I say yes, he deserves the award.
