I'm probably going to be a little unavailable until Thursday. Not 100% sure, but probably too nervous to write before then.

Why is Ultra assuming the local security is Imes' bodyguard? He quite explicitly reacted negatively to his presence.

I cut that for clarity's sake and partly because it was a misreading on my part (sorry), but rich guys do have entourages, and the more uppity types probably wouldn't appreciate them interrupting pissing matches like this—she'd infer/assume that sort of history.

And the guy does have, like, a suit and shades. That's a stereotypical 'bodyguard' even where she comes from.

Sorry for the wait, I was totally exhausted yesterday. I'll aim for tonight for Joseph, Joseph and Henry, but there's a good chance it gets pushed to tomorrow.

Okay, updated for the superterranean hotel group. Hopefully that isn't too disruptive to any in-progress posts.

I can work with it. But the next up to post for us is Chortleous, so it'll be interesting to see how that works out since they won't have Wolf's reaction to being bumped into...

EDIT: For clarification, where is everyone relative to everyone else? Is Ultra on a wall to the left or the right of the fountain from the point of view of the front door? I've had it in my own head that she's to the right, but that's not based on anything.

I imagined that Wolf came in through the door, veered right a while having a nose around and found Ultra on the right-hand wall, putting the fountain and the group thereat to his left.

After talking with Ultra and wandering off, I imagine Wolf tended back towards the centre of the lobby when Iveya and Imes entered the area - presumably from the door and they were in a position that they could 1) encounter Ultra, 2) be approached by Wolf and 3) have a hotel security person materialise out of nowhere (or, y'know, reception area).

So I imagine that Wolf - who walked away from Ultra then turned back to approach Iveya and Imes - has his back to the fountain and is between the fountain and Ultra (which fits with Joseph bumping into his back).

I imagine, since I picture Ultra on the right wall looking into the lobby from the door, that Imes and Iveya are to Wolf's right since they're roughly in a line between Ultra and the door.

Of course, I could be wrong and Ultra and reception are on the left wall of the lobby, in which case that puts Imes, Iveya and Ultra to Wolf's left.

Thoughts?????

I was picturing her being to the right of anyone coming in, yeah. Hotel layout is kind of nebulous, but fwiw I pictured the front doors and reception desk being in a sort of foyer area adjoining the central lobby (and that Ultra/Joseph/Henry's discussion earlier was held inside it, that 'quiet corner' being someplace near the doors). Now she'd be leaning against the wall near that, with Imes up in her face, Iveya hanging back a ways, with Wolf and now Joseph near her.

I dunno why the I pictured hotel reception to the right after coming through the doors, given the hotel I most often stay in it's to the left (lifts are to the right)

FWIW: Wolf's thought to compare the Old Clans to the Māori is pretty on the money. (The actual inspirations are different, but come from cultures who evolved in comparable circumstances.) I've not done much writing of Old Clan characters, but I'm glad to see their comprehensible, if often disconcerting, cultural mores are coming properly across as "real" enough for a line like that to be drawn. (Even other Qorisayane find them a bit intense.)

The culture you're conveying does come across as believable, as does the idea that it is viewed negatively or as "extreme" by other cultures.

Sorry for the wait. Last thing I want to do is join a group and slow it down. I'll try to get to the other two groups later today, or if not, then tomorrow.

Oh, and I forgot to properly chime in on the lobby position matter. What you said about it all occurring to the right of the fountain works perfectly, as that's where I'd imagined Henry and Joseph had been sitting anyway.

David and Claire are at the back of the fountain, if viewed from the entrance. Between it and where I picture the elevators are at.

Real comedy of errors unfolding in the lobby!

I'm toying with the idea of breaking Henry away to come make matters worse. He'd have to have been pretty distracted to not notice what just happened, but at the same time, he didn't witness the full thing and might very well misinterpret the situation.

EDIT: Thinking on the immediacy of Joseph's reaction to Wolf's reaction, I may have to retcon a bit of Wolf's story, as it was predicated on Joseph just standing there rubbing his nose long enough for Wolf to think.

Not sure if I should edit the previous post to cut out all but Wolf's move to evade - but that'd also wipe out the bit where he asked Joseph if he was OK.

Anyway, the next post will have to start from just after Wolf beats a hasty retreat from Joseph and Joseph's catastrophic attempt to jump back - and will omit the bits where he gets a chance to realise what must have happened and just keep him dragged along in the moment as it unfolds.

I've just edited my previous post in CAII lobby to remove the bits about Wolf having had time to breathe sighs of relief but still having enough time to ask if Joseph's OK so I can carry on from there.

That's okay, I might be a bit as well. These next two days are going to be busy.

Sorry for no post yet, had some really busy days. I'm going to make it my job to get something written today though. Aiming for Lobby > Diner > Basement
