You know Frank Miller? Well, the original TMNT comics began as a parody of his work, namely Rōnin and Daredevil. Shredder, the iconic villain of the franchise, is dead in the first issue thanks to the Turtles. The TMNT of the original Mirage Comics were not afraid to kill with their weapons.

Wizard Needs Food BadlyYeah, there's quite a bit of Early-Installment Weirdness here and there. I only read up to the end of the Triceradon arc. I wonder where I can find those comics in an unabridged compilation?
ALL CREATURE WILL DIE AND ALL THE THINGS WILL BE BROKEN. THAT'S THE LAW OF SAMURAI.I looked that up but still that is surprising.
Depends. Some stories are fun and silly ("Fun With Guns", "You Had to Be There") Others much more dark and angsty ("City at War", "The River"). Eastman & Laird's stories underwent gradual Cerebus Syndrome, before volume 1 ended with the very serious "Shades of Grey" and the aforementioned "City at War" arcs.
There's a period partway through volume one in which the series was handed over to various writers and artists. The tone of these stories varied wildly. One issue may be a serious tale of Don taking his brothers on a spiritual journey through the woods, while the next is about Raph and a cow being abducted by aliens.
Reading the entire first volume is definitely one of the most varied and unique experiences I've had reading comics.
Indeed, especially considering TMNT was made for black and white.
You can't, unfortunately. However, it's one of the dirt-cheapest comics to collect, and its one of the ones where you actually want the reprints (which often contained new story material).
Back when I was into it I managed to get over half of volume one before I lost interest.
visit my blog!I enjoy the Mirage TMNT comics. It's just a shame they never got proper collections. Though we did get one recently for the 25th Anniversary that collected the first few stories, its naturally out of print and people charge a lot else where for it.
Radda radda.http://www.comicsalliance.com/2011/04/04/idw-teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles/ IDW, now owning the comic TMNT, is planning on releasing a new series, as well as...ready for this? Reprinting both the Mirage and Archie series in collections.
Weird in a Can (updated M-F)"Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Issue #4 Cover
The storm has now resided, the wolf now rests.Well...shit!
I think it's just a hiatus rather than cancellation.
Really depends what IDW is able to do once the current prevailing circumstances are over with. 2/3 of the live action slate they sold to Netflix was cancelled after one season (which was a key part of their plans to get back in the black) and the Larry Hama GI Joe (the only IDW GI Joe book anyone actually cares about) has apparently been out and out cancelled.
It’s a tough time for everybody, especially given a lot of IDW’s plans relied on those Netflix shows for cash infusions.
Thru the ages, has any TMNT comic actually gotten a proper ending?
Depending on how you define "proper", you could argue that the original Mirage comics had a decent ending. So long as you ignore everything after volume 1.
But you cant really ignore it since it continues. And volume 4 has been on hiatus for a decade or so.
Volume 4 is a bit of a Base Breaker. Some fans would rather forget Splinter's death and April's true origin
That's where fanon discontinuity comes in.
Volume 2 was so bad that it only lasted 13 issues, and caused Mirage to shut down for a while. Volume 3 is divisive, and doesn't seem to entirely fit in the established TMNT world for certain reasons. Volume 4 is even more divisive, and featured some of the most controversial/disparaged elements of the franchise, and will likely never have an ending since Peter Laird stopped caring and walked away.
Volume 3 got a fan ending that fits it into Mirage continuity pretty neatly. So volume 3;Archie series never got Forever War finale,Dreamwave series canceled (not much of a loss),and now IDW on hiatus...Are TMNT comics cursed?
The Forever War might have an unofficially 'official' ending, but it's been promised for a decade now and every time we think it's coming together, it goes quiet for a little longer
Volume 3 is actually supposed to get an official conclusion soon. Part of the Urban Legends series, which is a colorized rerelease of volume 3. They're supposed to release three new issues from the original writers of volume 3 to wrap it up. Whether it ties into volume 4 or not remains to be seen.

Thats what I said about Forever War. Thou I think there was recently a kickstarter for it,so we will see how that goes.
As for the IDW recolor- who knows if that will be finished. Its also on hiatus, right?
Chris Allan, artist for the TMNTA Series is working with fans to finish Forever War, at last check they had 3 of the originally planned 5-6 issues penciled, with at least the first part completed. My guess would be that Chris had a rough script for the whole story since he had the first part almost completely penciled and completed covers for all the parts before the series was canceled.
The original plan was for the whole story to be completed by June 2020 but due to the COVID mess that has been pushed back the new goal is for the books to ship to backers before the end of 2020.
Does anyone know about the oeiginal comics? I want to know how darker were those comics anyway.
