Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickAh, you're probably right. Sorry. In that case, can we get a mod to move this thread?
Moved.
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.From the Bleach entry for Retcon:
- Some character designs have been retconned, and not because of Art Evolution. Compare Ulquiorra ch. 190 to Ulquiorra ch. 341. Nnoitra's zanpakuto magically became smaller and longer. Santa Teresa ch. 261 and Santa Teresa ch.286. Kubo can't even seem to make up his mind on Orihime's hair color, having it alternate between light brown◊ in some color pages, to bright orange in most others.
- In a similar vein, compare Las Noches before to how it has appeared most recently. Granted it WAS a rather long period of time since he had to do a shot of it, but there's no reason he couldn't reference it first. There's no explanation for the lower level and the absolutely massive towers around the perimeter of the place to be missing at all.

From Funbag Airbag:
- It's happened many times since then, but in a one-off special, Bleach's Toshiro Hitsugaya's very first meeting with his future lieutenant Rangiku Matsumoto is when she rams into him, chest-first. It's Meet Cute with two zeppelins. He's knocked off his feet; extraordinary.
- A young Byakuya, of all people, entered this situation with Yoruichi on at least one occasion, though she intentionally initiated it in order to annoy him and he didn't get knocked off his feet. The anime shows the moment better than the manga, as seen in this clip. Suddenly that scene on the bridge in the SS arc begins to make so much sense, considering this was treated as a normal occurance, Byakuya probably got greeted by Yoruichi this way MANY TIMES, much to his annoyance.
[...]
- In Hayate The Combat Butler Hayate observes Maria to play a joke on her, the moment Hayate spots a pun well...
- In Karneval this is how Nai first meets Eva. Shame he's too young and naive to appreciate it...
- To Love Ru gives us the Funbag Airbag Sandwich!◊
From Unsound Effect:
- In One Piece Chimney did her own sound effect for staring (jiiiiiii). *
- In this page during the Alabasta arc, the camel in the last panel gets, appropriately, CAMEL!!
- Chis Sweet Home uses a number of these, including things like "dejected" and "loom."
From Heno Heno Mo He Ji:
- There's another point where Yukina is talking about the brother she's never met, who has a hiruiseki necklace like hers. He's represented by a Henohenomoheji.
- Rosario To Vampire: a dummy Mizore replaces Tsukune with here.
Anyone got replacement images? I think it's probably best to upload if the example depends on it, so it won't just die again later.
BTW, I got all this just doing a search for "onemanga" and manually ignoring anything labelled "history".

BTW, I'm a chick.I was under the impression we're not supposed to link to any manga scans anymore.
Regulated fun - the best kind! I don't make the rules, just enforce them with an iron fist.I'm not saying manga scans, I'm saying images in general - fanart, stills from the anime, single panels, what have you.
BTW, I'm a chick.Back when Mangafox removed their pages for a while last year, I replaced the scanlation links on K-On! with uploaded images of nothing but the relevant panels (which most of the time meant just a single one).
I'm guessing that Negima is affected a lot by this, since links to whole scanlated pages seems to be common on its various entries.
Isn't that still illegal if it's from an unlicensed translation?
Regulated fun - the best kind! I don't make the rules, just enforce them with an iron fist.A lot of the images can be replaced from the raws - things like character designs and facial expressions don't depend on translations.
BTW, I'm a chick.Its illegal either way.
But seriously there are way too many links to scans in the Negima entries.
I sure as hell am not going to go clean them all up though.
Now I don't want to play moralizer here (I read scanlations for mangas that are unreleased here myself, so it would be hypocritical anyway), but I don't think that we shouldn't link to scans, no matter how well they illustrate a point.

People aren't as awful as the internet makes them out to be.↑↑Is is illegal where? And is that law stable? TV Tropes Is Not America.
Now, I think that where possible replacing links to the images with exposition that actually describes what is happening and how it relates to the trope at hand would be good. But there's nothing wrong with linking to, say, a photo that shows the manga page if it is not an actual scan; depending on the photo, those may fall under Fair Use.
Fanfic Recs orwellianretcon'd: cutlocked for committee or for Google? What makes a photo different from an unaltered scan? I doubt the law makes a specific distinction between one kind of reproduction and another.

Regulated fun - the best kind! I don't make the rules, just enforce them with an iron fist. There's a difference between having a law and actually enforcing it. I live in an Eastern European country and the only reason we have digital piracy laws here is so we don't get slammed with fines from the EU. Beyond that nobody gives a damn what you do and you certainly won't get in trouble for linking to torrents or scans of Japanese comics. And if TV Tropes Is Not America, what legislation system do we operate under anyway?
Regulated fun - the best kind! I don't make the rules, just enforce them with an iron fist.I don't really care if we link to illegal scans, but lets not try to be cute about it. For at least 90% of the TV Tropes audience, those scans are illegal no matter what language they are in.
And, more importantly, they are encouraging bad example writing habits.
Using a single frame or panel to illustrate a concept is covered under fair use, isn't it?
Linking to the entire thing scanned is illegal, but we're looking to *replace* links to scans with links to single images, I thought?
BTW, I'm a chick.Pretty much correct.
↑↑Much better. Cleans up the issue of what are we linking to pretty nicely.
Fanfic Recs orwellianretcon'd: cutlocked for committee or for Google?
Some of the folks that usually post on the anime form might remember a while back that Onemanga decided remove all scanlations from their archive, and that Manga Fox did something similar, only with licensed manga.
Now, the big problem here isn't the ethics of scanlating or anything. That's for other threads to complain about. The big issue here is that there were a fuckton of anime examples on Tv Tropes proper that linked to pages on Onemanga to illustrate their point.
It's been a few months and the majority of these dead links have yet to be cleaned up (out of unfamiliarity with the example in question, being unable to find a replacement link, not being sure if they should just delete the whole example, just plain laziness, or all of the above). I figured that it would be a good idea to create a thread to highlight trope pages where this problem crops up in order make replacing or deleting these dead links easier.
So, um... Happy hunting?
