We already have a tool that identifies the items and highlights them with a red bullet and also tells you which ones need to be moved when you go to edit the page. How about a tool that would allow you to automate the process of moving the items? It could even have customized options to allow you to keep/mark items that are in-universe and make sure that everything is moved exactly where it's supposed to be. I don't have the experience to code something like that, but maybe somebody here who's familiar with bots and that type of thing...

If the trope is used in-universe, wouldn't it get shifted over as well regardless of how it was done? Or do you mean a checklist of some sort?

Well, I think it would be fairly easy to move all the non-invoked YMMV items in order together at the bottom of the page, making it so that one cut-n-paste could do the job of moving them to the YMMV tab.

That would be a great idea. And, yeah, as has been said, there's already a way to flag them as in-universe, so it shouldn't be problematic. And if it turns out that it's not marked properly, that's something that would have to be handled manually anyway, and can be done before the move was made.

We should wait some time before installing this, the "in-universe" tag was only installed a short time ago, obviously most in-universe examples aren't marked yet.

This method would cause more hassle in categorizing the examples at the bottom of the page, than categorizing them one by one in the text.

Okay, yeah, it might not be a bad idea to let things settle down, though about how long exactly? And I had another idea, which maybe could be installed eventually. Right now, there's nothing to stop someone from adding YMMV items to works pages. What if if you tried to add one, it locked you out and wouldn't let you save the page until you removed it, unless you flagged it as in-universe? Or, if we want to take it one step further, it could lock you out if they are any YMMV items, even if they were already on the page, forcing somebody to do the work of moving them before further edits could be made.

That's quite excessive. If I would just want to fix the grammar of something, or add a new entry, and the system would force me to categorize the whole page first, I would rather eave the whole page as it is.

Also, maybe the "invoked" and "in-universe" tags should be mentioned in the headlines, many still don't even know about them.

Well, item B might be excessive, but I don't see why Item A - being locked out from saving if you try to add a YMMV item couldn't be implemented.

And yeah, mentioning those tags in the headlines would be a good idea.

Item B is excessive for two reasons:

1. I have tried to get all examples into a standard format before moving them, I like to save after doing this. ([Trope Name]: or [Trope Name] - , however, I will always change Trope Name (example) since half the time that encourages bad grammar and punctuation.)

2. If there are a lot of YMMV items, I will sometimes move half, then move the other half in another edit.

There is also the problem of things going on and off the index of YMMV tropes, which means we could be making more work for ourselves later.

Re #2:

It's better to just delete the YMMVs then use the page history to move them to their subpage, as opposed to cut-pasting directly from the main article to the subpage with the editing screen open. That way, you don't have to worry about time.
