Spider-Man General Discussion

Go To

This thread's for the Spider-Man comics and spin-offs, whether they're decades old or brand new.

  • Apart from the main Marvel Universe titles, Ultimate Spider-Man, Spider-Man "What If?" stories, crossovers, guest appearances in other books, Alternate Universe tales and things like Marvel's manga adaptations are all on-topic here.
  • Spider-Man 'family' books are on-topic (as are their own crossovers, guest appearances etc.) - e.g. Spider-Man 2099, Miles Morales, Spider-Woman, Silk, Spider-Gwen, Venom, Carnage, Black Cat, Red Goblin and Spider-Verse.
  • Characters and comics that originated in Spider-Man but are no longer directly connected to the spider-franchise (e.g. Punisher, Silver Sable) are not on-topic, unless you're discussing historical connections and crossovers. If in doubt, check before you write a long post. If this isn't the right place, there's a more general Marvel Comics thread which covers them.

Technically, Marvel's Infinity Comics (and their predecessors, Infinite Comics) are webcomics, not comic books, but it's fine to talk about their Spider-Man stories here.

Discussions that are only about Spider-Man adaptations in other media (films, video games etc.) are off-topic, but discussing the differences between the adaptations and the original comics is fine - as long as spoilers for the adaptations are tagged.

Please follow the spoiler policy rules - tag spoilers for the latest issues, for any previews or content leaks, and for off-topic comics. When including spoiler tags, try to write so that tropers can make an informed decision before viewing them (e.g. which series and issue will they spoil?).

     Original Thread OP
Since everyone likes talking about him. I know little about him(Ironically,I got nearly all I know about him from a Batman thread),but he's apparently important so I made this thread. Enjoy.

Whether Doc Ock counts as transformed is a bit fuzzy.

I'd say no, but Doc Ock DOES have a Carnage form in the old video game.

Still spooky as shit.

[up][up] and [up]: There's also Otto's tenure as The Superior Spider-Man, though that depends on whether you count Freaky Friday Flips as "transformations". If you don't, he does canonically bond to the Venom symbiote for a little bit during that time, so you could count that as his transformation. He also uses an entire swarm of spiders (which used to be the body of Spiders-Man) to transfer his consciousness into all of New York's population during the current volume of Superior Spider-Man.

Black Cat transformed in the nineties animated series. Rhino appears to transform in the Kraven movie. Technically Ultimate Green Goblin and Hobgoblin transformed, too.

Yeah, I don't really count the body swap as transformations.

Like, that's a body swap. Transformations have to improve and change the body. Not the mind only.

I did not expect live-action. That’s cool.

Right now the big question is if it’s canon to the Spider-Verse movies.

The Spider-Man Unlimited infinity comic is back with the first part of Steve Foxe, Julian Shaw and Lorenzo Susi's "Coulda Been a Contender" arc.

Despite the title change and relauch, it's still clearly a Spider-Verse book. This time we get the Earth-616 Peter Parker and Earth-71490's Web-Weaver in parallel stories.

On 616, Spidey deals with another doomed scheme from z-list villain Grizzly.

Meanwhile, Web-Weaver deals with the aftermath of his world's Gang War and goes after the Kingpin. The story drops in on him just as he confronts Fisk ...who's not the Kingpin. Fisk's just the muscle. Grizzly is New York's current Kingpin of Crime, complete with Wolverine Claws on one hand and a very different look, despite the bear theme (and, yes, there's a joke about the gay bear community). This version was told he'd never amount to anything and decided to prove them wrong...

I could be wrong, but I think the art team's also divided between the two settings. It's fun.

Cooper Coen, one of the non-Peter alternates from Spiderverse. A fashion designer at Van Dyne who acquires the usual powers.

Maybe I just don’t get fashion but I dislike Web-Weavers costume. I can’t really put it into words but it feels a bit to flashy and stereotypical for me.

I think it looks cool but it definitely feels less like a superhero costume and more like a runway outfit.

[up] Sure thing Bro

Peter and MJ have non-speaking cameos towards the end of the episode, they're watching a live broadcast from a TV in a battered store window. Also TAS Flash Thompson walks by and stops to watch the TV with them

Beau Demayo confirmed on social media that This is set post-Spider Wars, that it's the real MJ and that Peter found her

I’m surprised he’s even allowed to do that, but since this Spidey hasn’t gotten a new show yet, I suppose it’s not a big deal.

It's been said many times that for WFH comics you need two out of three for timeliness, ease to work with and great quality work.

Whenever a creator wobbles on one, I wonder about the others - and specifically the "easy to work with" level, which the audience doesn't see.

That said, Land's not an awful artist, imo - the tracing and pornification is a huge issue for me, as are the interchangeable faces. But for big superhero scenes he is certainly competent.

Bad news Spider-Bros, I showed that girl I'm babysitting the 2nd episode of Spectacular Spider-Man, and she really hated it.

-She thinks the attempt at romance with Liz to be really cringey, she(the kid) felt that she was getting talked down to during Peter's whole science spiel because the kid is a sports fan kind of gal who really enjoys soccer(No, not American Football.) so she really hated the implication that being a nerd is somehow better than doing sports.

-She felt bad for Electro and didn't like Peter basically bullying him, despite Peter regretting some parts, the fact that he still beat up Electro and sent him to jail despite his condition means Spider-Man is the villain here for some reason.

-And she continues to be annoyed at Spectacular Peter and hopes Flash continues to bully him more.

My God, we really are being replaced by Miles fans. Say it ain't so!

She is a smart girl since she reasoned her issues and bothered to explain them. So many kids would just tell you 'Whatevs, bro, it's boring and lame' while looking at the phone. So good for her, actually.
