I've always been partial to the Shadow, myself. There's just something about how atmospheric they make most episodes.

I can't say the same for the Blue Beetle, unfortunately...

Do old fashioned Radio Dramas count? Because I'm partial to the old fashioned Suspense and The Mercury Theater On The Air show.

Also anything that plays Jazz or classical scores big with me. I'm from the South West coast CA, so I regularly enjoy stations 91.1 and KDFC

The Shadow is probably still my favorite superhero.

Oh yeah, I love the Shadow, though nothing beats Jack Benning or Gunsmoke. Or Tales of Suspense, those are awesome too. Dear grief, I can't decide....

I've only heard a few. Most of them Japanese things I could only understand the basic gist of in a very simple manner. I am rather fond of the Mind's Eye radio adaptation of Lord of the Rings. Still haven't taken the time to listen to the Spirit at all...I mean to. Sometime. Fuck my list of things to go through is long.

Oh. And there was some podcast my AP psych teacher would have on a few times for lessons. I rather liked it. It explained concepts from our book in a nice relatable way and had one segment devoted to learning to use mnemonics.

I really like it when some AM radio stations, such as my local stations have audio books read sometimes and they bring in really good vocal artists like James Earl Jones or Jim Dale to do the readings. They even had Maurice La Marche to read selections of Poe for Halloween.

My local hippy community radio does staged readings of Ulysses every Bloomsday. It is great fun.

A Prairie Home Companion, The Navy Lark, Dragnet, This is your FBI, Tales of the Texas Rangers, Harry Nile, and Gangbusters are probably all my favorites. I can't pick just one.

This isn't old-time radio, so bear with me.

I really miss Tom Leykis. Free FM L.A. was a good thing, and it was replaced with a Top 40 station due to Executive Meddling at CBS Radio. Thankfully he'll be back on air in a year or so.

Other than that, Coastto Coast AM with Art Bell (I can't stand any of the new hosts except for Knapp on Sundays), Free Talk Live, Howard Stern and Opie And Anthony.

The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy.

And shut up, it started as a radio play before they made it a book, and the radio play was better than the book anyway.

[up] I'm pretty sure most Brits will know that, but radio drama seems to be fairly parocial in the age of TV so no wonder the Westpondians and others only know the books and maybe the film.

As for me, back to the topic... well I listen to the Today programme and very rarely comedy. Used to tune in almost religiously to the 6:30pm comedy/quiz slot on Radio 4, perhaps the panel shows like Im Sorry I Havent A Clue and Just A Minute or the Friday night topical shows (The Now Show, The News Quiz and so on, and anyone remember Dead Ringers?)

Dragnet. That series drug me into radio/OTR shows as a whole. I don't listen to that much right now since I'm so busy with other stuff but I'm in complete awe at the audio engineering for that series.

I have way too many OTR shows on my to-listen list.

"I am the Whistler, and I know many things, for I walk by night. I know many strange tales, many secrets hidden in the hearts of men and women who have stepped into the shadows. I know the nameless terrors of which they dare not speak. "

The Whistler. 13 years (1942-1955) on air, over 700 episodes (sadly 200+ has been lost to time) of a delightful Anthology series that is pretty much the Shadow minus the Shadow with a healthy dose of Twilight Zone Twists thrown in.

And no one but me seems to know or care...
