@Raineh Daze: Yep, it's permanently yours once acquired. Just need to make an account with the Epic Store and grab the offer before it expires and that's it.

[up] Smart move adding in the co-op / PVE mode, that's a great way to increase the longevity of the game past the campaign and skirmish mode.

The system specs were released. Not particularly intensive, should be able to run on most decent systems, unless you're planning on using Ray-Tracing.

Homeworld 3 finally has a (hopefully this time final) release date of March 8th, 2024.

Purchasing Guide

There's also a bit of news to be interpreted from the pre-purchase info. While the co-op War Games mode will be included upon initial release, Blackbird is planning on using the season passes to release new playable factions and artifacts (I'm guessing fleet upgrades).

Tried to install classic HW 1 yesterday, couldn't even start it until I powered up my old laptop to get the registry entries with which the game worked.

2 is fine but I never really liked how they turned units into their own squadrons. And ostensibly you can focus fire on individual components of larger vessels, but it's honestly just best to destroy them outright.

It was already difficult enough trying to command units due to the 3-dimensional nature of the map; having to try to pick out a single fighter from the middle of a chaotic dogfight was a pain, especially if you didn't assign it to a control group beforehand. Having squadrons kinda alleviates that issue somewhat, and is a bit more realistic in how carrier flight groups operate.

Speaking of which... I really struggled with the new demo's control schemes. Kinda wondering how younger me was able to intuitively understand Homeworld 2's controls so quickly, yet older me can barely even order the recon fighters to fly in a straight line or even attack.

Video showing off the goodies packed into Homeworld 3's Collector Edition.

Gotta admit, I was hoping the Mothership model along with the frigates would've been just a wee bit bigger... oh well. Still wouldn't mind owning it!

HOMEWORLD 3 YEAR ONE ROADMAP FOR WAR GAMES

It's confirmed both the Free and paid DLC additions will focus entirely upon introducing multiplayer subfactions, maps and artifacts instead of additional singleplayer content. Though I do wonder what they mean by "New System" for the Free August update...

Oh, and the system requirements were slightly optimized. It's not a big difference but it might make things easier for some folks to run.

That's why I didn't link any of the reviews or leaked gameplay yet. From what I'm seeing though, the usual suspects (i.e. PC Gamer, IGN, etc) are giving their usual takes of "good but not great, it feels lacking for a AA title, it's not deep or big enough for it's supposed value," etc.

Definitely best to play Homeworld 3 first on your own BEFORE reading the consensus and letting it influence your opinion.

Some thoughts about Homeworld 3 so far:

Unfortunately, the game’s UI and reactions to screen resolution changes isn’t as good as it should’ve been. While on the “First time onboarding setup” screen the third menu to the farthest right was partially cropped out of the screen. At first I was thinking it was intended for me to simply scroll the menu towards the content, but nope, nothing moved. The issue resolved itself as soon as I entered one of the other menu options and appeared on Homeworld’s proper main menu, which was functioning properly. But the fact I saw that same glitch during the demo released earlier this year… you’d think their several attempts at polishing the game would’ve caught this. Thankfully this hasn’t affected me during the gameplay itself, though I would like to increase the in-game UI font size just a tad.

And man, I can’t overstate enough just how critical it is for players to get their understanding of Homeworld 3’s command-and-control systems down pat. In most traditional RTS games you can ignore the more intricate keybinds and/or shortcuts to simply focus on using the mouse and screen display’s tooltips just fine. But in Homeworld, such behavior will likely lead to massive headaches as trying to select a moving starfighter squadron in the middle of a heated battle with only the mouse cursor is a challenge itself. It’s because of this that I STRONGLY advise even veteran players to take the tutorial for a spin in order to learn the keybinds and shortcuts; you’ll need them later in the campaign to help manage the chaos.

A couple of tutorial tooltips are annoyingly vague. Got stuck trying to figure out how to focus and rotate the camera around the Mothership, and only passed that section after doing so in the sensors menu. I don’t think that’s how I was supposed to complete that part, and it turns out I was right: I ended up ignoring the focus keybind for a few missions until I decided to try it again out of curiosity and… it suddenly worked. Why the heck doesn’t it function in the tutorial?

Imogen’s CGI facial work does not look good, nor does her long, flowing hair. The face looks more like something from the older PS 2 era cutscenes, and her hair often suffers from blocky textures appearing, even in pre-rendered cutscenes, which shouldn’t be the case. Really think the art style for Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak would’ve been the better choice here, but I know that one required actual actors for mo-cap so maybe it was too cost-prohibitive.

It's less of a player's guide and more of another "overview of the basics/what is Homeworld" sort of video.

They're obviously just fishing for a fight, unaware that up until DoK, Homeworld had a grand total of ONE white male depicted on screen in the ENTIRE franchise.

In other words, this is the wrong franchise to be upset about. Humans being depicted at all outside heavy EVA gear is the exception, not the norm.

More seriously, though. From what I hear, prevailing opinions are that HW3 isn't a bad game, it's just not a AAA masterpiece. Gameplay is a bit clunky here and there, the unit roster has a few oddities (lack of variation in corvettes, frigates are ludicrously powerful compared to bigger ships), campaign is fun but the story is flat.
