I don't really care for the amazing atheist, and that Pharyngula thing only makes my distaste for him stronger. He really comes off as incredibly smug and intolerant, and often uses glaring generalities to prove his points. In one video, I remember him talking about how "Christians" are going to be running around talking about how some then-recent natural disaster was God's punishment, while those same Christians would also apparently be telling people to thank God when they managed to avoid a natural disaster, saying that it was His mercy. He doesn't even bother to specify which "Christians" he's talkign about, but I'm assuming we're supposed to take it as "All of them."
he got into some pretty hilarious drama on reddit, too.
You can't even write racist abuse in excrement on somebody's car without the politically correct brigade jumping down your throat!Yeah, we know.
Hey Carcio!
Good point I guess. Just for me I prefer people who have more to them then just that, and I'm not sure why the youtube atheist community holds (held?) up the Amazing Atheist as the pinnacle of what they had to offer. He's really...ignorant I guess you would say.
But I guess this is true that its a format which sells pretty well in other areas as well. Rush Limbaugh and other political commentators come to mind. For me even if I agree with some of what they are saying, it just rubs me the wrong way.
What baffles me the most about that Reddit thing is that people were defending him. You do not defend someone who just openly told a rape victim he would rape them again. And then told her to start reliving that rape. Ya just don't do that shit.

I've seen people defend stupider things. Honestly, the AA and his followers are almost enough to make me sympathize with the "All atheists are dicks" crowd.
They're no better than the guy.

People wonder why many Christians think that all atheists, and... everyone else are out to get them.
I present exhibit A.

Go play Kentucky Route Zero. Now.What do "liberals", whoever they even are, have to do with anything? His point of view, and more in general the whole MRA stuff, seems to me to be as far from the usual concept of left-wing as it is humanly possible.
And really, there are Christian liberals and Christian conservatives, just as there are atheist liberals and atheist conservatives.
Tell you what, Atheists, why don't we call it even — we don't hold the AA against you, and you don't hold any Christian Internet semicelebrity of your choice and of comparable lunacy of your choice against us.
Deal?*

But they seem to know where they are going, the ones who walk away from Omelas. If they think "all atheists are dicks" and not "all atheists deserve to be raped," they're at least a little better.
Well, obviously. But better than that particular guy.

Honestly, I know a lot of atheists, and most of them are damn good people (most of them know more about other religions than their own practitioners. Make of that what you will). The Amazing Asshole and his troupe of crusaders against religion are pretty much a Vocal Minority.

I like the slippers.
But they seem to know where they are going, the ones who walk away from Omelas. My best friend is an atheist who's politically moderate (but supported the Jon Huntsman campaign). He does not act like this (he's more like a John Lithgow type).

This guy gives Atheists a bad name, Jack Chick gives Christians a bad name.
I DEMAND A SHIPFIC. IT WOULD BE WEIRDEST THING EVER.
Go play Kentucky Route Zero. Now.I approve. I approve so much.
But they seem to know where they are going, the ones who walk away from Omelas. It would be cool to see how neither of them would be even remotely fazed by the other, since Jack Chick is more or less what the AA thinks all Christians are like and the AA more or less lives up to Jack Chick's vision of Atheists.
Well, I kinda doubt that if someone mentioned Jesus to the AA he'd go "Jesus? Who was him?"
But they seem to know where they are going, the ones who walk away from Omelas.I'd imagine it would be a two-hour rant with maybe 10 minutes on the actual subject.

But they seem to know where they are going, the ones who walk away from Omelas. So true, .
Seeing all these piss ant tropers trying to talk tough makes me laugh. If Matrix were here, he'd laugh too.I know. I imagine the Amazing Atheist would fit into the only other category of atheists Jack Chick thinks exist, the "GRAAWR, CHRISTIANS BAD!" kind of atheist. The only difference is that the Amazing Atheist isn't known to pull off his face, revealing that he was actually the devil wearing a disguise.

It wouldn't surprise me if this guy was really Chris-chan or Harry Knowles in a really convincing human suit.

His character can be but the man himself is rather okay it seems.
