So, basically this doesn't pull an Indy 4?
I'd been a fan of Tim Powers, and On Stranger Tides in particular, since the days when Pot C was just a theme park attraction. I'm hoping this movie won't wind up making hash out of the book, in the course of incorporating its ideas into a much goofier franchise.
Say, am I the only one who really liked all three films so far? Granted, At World's End did get kind of loopy in places, like I'm not sure why Sao Feng needed to exist, but "Hoist the Colours" and the final battle saved it. Chest was actually my favorite last time I checked, although granted I've seen Pearl only once...
Posting this here because the "unpopular opinions" thread got nuked.

I love all three, though the first is IMO the best and I'd probably rank Chest the lowest (I feel it drags when Jack or Davy Jones aren't on-screen). Eagerly looking forward to this one, particularly since it sounds like they've been trying to streamline it and correct some of the flaws of 2 and 3 (which I felt were there, though they hardly ruined the movies).
Not even Jack Sparrow can save this ship.
I like my coffee black just like my metal.(Sorry, been busy a few days). No, it doesn't pull an Indy 4. It doesn't break the paradigms established earlier in the series. No, it's not a Jack & Barbossa buddy movie. The character that falls in love with a mermaid is a supporting character, though plot-important.
A brighter future for a darker age.Might be interesting to see how they do without Will and Elizabeth, since the first two films really focused on those two. This is the first time Deep/Jack will have to carry the film on his shoulders as the main characters, instead of an Ensemble Dark Horse.
Inspirational quote against powerful image of nature.Morven: YOU HAVE GIVEN ME HOPE :D
Just, please tell me there is lots and lots of music in it. Dear lord do I love that music.
Read my stories!... can't remember, alas. I didn't notice a lack.
A brighter future for a darker age.I liked Chest the most but I might have to see all three again. World's End had too many goofy moments(the locker, the crab lady being standouts) and was a bit sloppy in its plot but was still a bit enjoyable overall.
I was worried this might end up like Indy 4(yuck) but it doesn't seem too bad from what I'm hearing.
I LOVED this movie. It's as amazing as the previous movies. The sound track is still very awesome. The story was great and the characters where well done (new and old). This is a must see for everyone.
Saw it yesterday, hated it. There was just too much going on, several of the plots would have been enough to make a whole (good) movie about but by shoehorning them all together it felt weird. Droping Will and Elizabeth was a good idea, but the new actress looks too much like Keira Knightly.
Saw the movie at a midnight showing. I didn't enjoy it as much as I hoped, but it wasn't nearly as bad as it could have been, had a lot of fun moments and plenty of action. I'd say the real weakness of it is the plot, but frankly I didn't see it so much for that as I did to see more of Captain Jack Sparrow's piratey shenanigans. And in that regard, my expectations were met. Plus it left me optimistic about the potential for future movies.
Saw it today. I see my fellow Tropers have a wide range of opinions, but I adored it. The opening's pacing was a little good, but come the Queen Anne I felt that it really picked up. Lots of humour, lots of subversions, lots of Jack Sparrow antics and, on the whole, I thought that it was better than both Dead Man's Chest and At World's End, and frankly I thought it as good as the first movie.
Against all tyrants.Haven't seen it yet, but as a film critic I'm sure I'll find something to complain about....
Don't you know?Despite the bad reviews, my interest is piqued because apparently Eric Whitacre did a little work for the film.
I saw it today. My review can be found here.

So one thing I have to ask: what happened to the naval battles? The film didn't have even one.
Yeah, I actually noticed that and it bugs me a bit. I'm not complaining, though, because the script was already bloated without the addition of a naval battle just for the sake of having a naval battle.
Saw it, not bad, not great either though. Definitely better then 2 and 3 though. My only major problem was the clutter. The movie went from one action scene to another, it never really had anytime to breath. I wanted at least a few scenes of just slow build up. The first movie handles this very well, not so much here. Also the movie was really, really dark, and I saw it in 2D. I really feel bad for anyone who saw it in 3D. Also some of the 3D effects shots were painfully obvious in the 2D version.
You will never love a women as much as George Lucas hates his fans.Moviemakers need to knock off the "LOOK 3D SCENE" crap, yes.
I saw it in 3D, and the 3D is neither good nor awful; it adds nothing worthwhile to the movie. I'll be happy when this stupid trend ends.
A brighter future for a darker age.Well good old George Lucas has decided it won't end for another six years.
You will never love a women as much as George Lucas hates his fans.Eh, it was okay. xD
But I'm wondering, what about Ragetti and the other pirates on the Black Pearl? Did they just... die?
Its possible that some of them are still trapped on the Pearl in the bottle.
Was the main focus Jack and Barbossa in a Buddy Picture? I saw in the trailers that one of the male characters falls in love or something with a mermaid, and I really really really don't want another Will and Elizabeth Expy with this film.
