Kory: i will need to do some more testing to see if the 500KB should be lowered even more but either way everyone can relax because the database will not crash or implode in anyway due to page size so splitting pages isn't a huge priority and is just more of a suggestion. For pages that actually load slow, splitting the pages will help slower internet users navigate these pages better.

     Eddie's old post
Looks like we have a big page lock coming. Big in the sense of many pages and big in the sense that the pages to be locked are too big.

It looks like pages over 500,000 characters (html formatted, that is) are crashing the server when someone tries to edit them. programmer's whine

They need to be fixed, anyway. Way too big for one page. They need to be broken up into subpages of a reasonable size.

I'm trying to get better about communicating before big changes, so we'll let this one run for a while before taking the action. The server crashes do come under the heading of 'urgent', though.

You could probably make an Other page for ones that only have a couple of examples. That tends to be how it's done.

Character sheets can be divided into (Work and WorkTwo), like they've done with.....Bleach...which looks like it's in need of a Bleach 3. Whoa. Never mind.

Though with Doctor Who, I suppose we could split the revamp off into Characters.Doctor Who 2005 Series, like with It Just Bugs Me (and possibly the older show into Characters.Doctor Who 1963 Series).

You gotta love how Oh Crap is on there.

Also, Grand Unified Timeline AGAIN? We've already split it into three pieces. ...I have no idea what a good jumping off point for there is. Though I think we should probably make an index page, and then make the first one Grand Unified Timeline One.

Also, yeah, the Fridge Brilliance, Tear Jerkers, Heartwarming Moments, Ho Yay, High Octane Nightmare Fuel Perverse Sexual Lust and so forth should probably be split into works and make the Film, Live Action TV, Web Original etc. indexes only.

CrowningMusic.Video Games is a mess. Simple as.

"Other" pages start catching everything. Pages are free. Nothing wrong with a short page.

Making sure I'm on the right track...what's an "Other" page?

Edit: I definitely see now, I skipped over a few posts is all.

I Thought It Meant I'm doing alphabetically, since that's how it's folderized anyway:

Does that look right, before I go do the others? The formatting seems a bit odd to me all of the sudden.

I'm wincing at how to organise HighOctaneNightmareFuel.Real Life. Especially as I probably wouldn't want to read through the examples.

Split Naruto's tropes in Tropes One and Tropes Two, one for each of the already existing folders in that page. Each page need to be alphabetically foldered, for convenience, though.

In a continuation from "folders are your friends" discussion, can I assume dividing the tropes in the work pages in just two pages is enough as even the biggest work page, Warhammer40000, is no where near to being twice as big as the maximun number of characters?

@ Old Man Ho Oh: See what I mean by "other" being useless? Doing the classified folders would make sense, then leaving it locked until someone with a strong stomach comes along to sort the 'others' into something usable.

Another idea for Doctor Who: we divide it roughly by the folders.

Awesome.

I figured it'd be better to leave plenty of room to expand than having more letters on a page.

How should we split this page? Navigation is a real pain there.

The Massive Multi-Fandom RPG Character page is already split into Season 1 & Season 2. Would it make sense to split the page into a Season 1 Cast Page and a Season 2 Cast Page?

Working on Catchphrase. Just split it into Anime, etc. by folder I presume?

To elaborate on what Game Guru GG said, we've now realised that the person who was in charge of adding examples to The Massive Multi Fandom RPG character page went a little overboard with it. Once the page is unlocked, we could start a cleanup operation on our own for it.

For now, could it be seperated into season one and season two pages, or would the latter still be too big?
