The only one who mentioned a possible misuse was Madrugada.

Shouldn't be separate methinks. It's the same thing.

... on second thought, the common theme is more than enough reason to give them the same article. But the point remains, the current title has considerable potential for confusion. I say rename it.

Also, obviously Madrugada wasn't the only one mentioning it, (I was too) but that alone should be enough to tell you there IS something wrong with the name. o.o

I object, if people say they don't like it but are unable to say why, that may be an indication that the problem is possibly not as big as they think.

I'm just saying that before you accuse me of ignoring all arguments, just give some. I don't think it's too much to ask for to have a few good reasons in a rename thread.

I thought they were already clear, from my YKTTW and Madrugada's response alike, but I'll go over this:

1. The title is just "I will show you X"; this could easily be confused for "I'll introduce you to X" or "I'll demonstrate X" or "I'll give you a tour of X" etc... it was a VERY poorly chosen name and in hindsight I should have changed the name BEFORE launching the trope.

2. I'm still convinced that "I got your X right here" is a better name, but I'm not sure HOW much better; what I need is something that REALLY captures the theme of the trope. Even the three forms of the trope given on the trope page aren't necessarily the only variations of the trope (in a way, it's more of a "set of stock phrases" than a stock phrase in itself) and I need something that captures the theme that all variations of it have in common; easier said than done since I'm not sure how to describe it...

... so far the best thing I can think of is that it's SIMILAR to [Verb] This!, and there might be some overlap between the two. An alternative title would be "I'll X you some Y" but that alternative just seems a little TOO vague.

I take it whatever's in red is supposed to be part of each trope name, including the "instead" part of each?

In any case it's still not as good as "I Got Your X Right Here" is, partly because those still have potential to be confused for something like "I'll take you on a tour of this region instead" (ie. when Luminere was trying to distract Belle by leading her to the library) or "why don't you ingest/consume this instead," respectively.

I still don't see Ive Got Your X Right Here any better than the others. Doesn't it have the exact same problem - that it could just as well that a character has something that belongs to another character, or has fetched / saved something for another character, kidnapped a character's gf / family /etcetra?

I was wondering if adding "Instead" might help - after all, the point is that the character is not getting what he wants, but he gets a handful of ass-whopping instead?

To me, I Will Show You X! is the clearest. That's how I've always heard this Stock Phrase. I tend to automatically read I Got Your X Right Here more literally.

"I still how Ive Got Your X Right Here is any better than the others." - Vree

... what?

Anyway, you're right, it's not MUCH better (it still is better in that there aren't as many other uses for it to be confused for) but I'm still not inclined to settle for the current name. Couldn't we try coming up with one that represents the theme of the trope?

^^ Pretty much.

Anyway, I have made my suggestions. Don't like them, maybe someone else can help out.

"Your Mom is not a "comeback" supertrope. (Thank God.) If anything this has more in common You Fight Like a Cow."

Then Your Mom is in dire need of a repair, because right now a comeback supertrope is exactly what that article is. (The description section lists all the variants, including "the ever useful I've Got Your X Right Here".)

Yeeah reading it again I gotta agree with that. Let me take that to another thread.

... so I take it we aren't changing the name? Currently I have the description written as though the name were about to be changed, should I adjust the description to the current title instead?

Also, what about Ill X Your Y? While I can still see that general form mistaken for other things, it doesn't seem to be as big a variety of other things as I Will Show You X! can be mistaken for.

Well, the two reasons you listed for rename are "I don't like this name," and "I like this other name better." Those aren't enough to rename something.

This is the top of the list of the Stale Shop/discussions and it's been a month, so is there something we need to do with this or should we close it?

This doesn't seem to be going anywhere. We'd be renaming on the basis of "I like this other name better" and hypothetical future misuse. both of those are poor reasons.
