- Alternately, Dragon Ball is a Martial Arts Movie filtered through a Fantasy Gag Series, and Dragon Ball Z is a Martial Arts Movie filtered through Science Fiction and Sentai tropes. As far as Martial Arts films go, the Dragon Ball franchise shares the most in common with the Drunken Master series. Especially before the Z era.
