Tales of Maharlika is an RPG webcomic written by animeApprentice. It can be read on the MSPA Forums. It is currently ongoing, and tells the tale of six teenagers who find themselves in what appears to be an RPG adventure.


Contains examples of:

  • Alternate History: The nation of Maharlika has several parallels to real-world Philippines, the author's native country.
  • Audience Participation: The readers have an influence over what happens in the story, and can submit commands on the thread the adventure is on.
  • Color-Coded Speech: Each of the kids have a unique text color.
  • Meaningful Name: Specifically, with the kids' last names.
    • Ignacio means "fire", a reference to Caloy's eventual fire powers. Fire is also associated with God and faith.
    • Aguilar invokes "agila", Filipino for eagle; the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles are one of the top teams in the Philippines.
    • Jacinto means "garden", where plants grow; Lucia is a dryad.
    • Fontana means "fountain", which contains water; Xavier is a merfolk.
    • Lazaro is derived from Lazarus, the man Jesus resurrected from the dead; Maria is a necromancer.
    • Galina means "light"; Silena is an idol used to the spotlight.
  • Mr. Fanservice: Justin has a muscular body and is fond of taking his shirt off.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Selena has a large bust size and likes to wear revealing clothes.
  • Teen Genius: Caloy knows a lot about the history of the Church, Maria is aware of many gender-related social issues, and Xavier's a talented mechanic. Silena, Lucia and Justin aren't slouches either.
