Players take the role of ancient mind controlling artifacts.
  • Possibly hidden in plain sight, as a crown or other piece of regalia that never leaves a ruler's presence. May also count as an Artifact of Doom as they tend to inspire more cunning and ruthless behavior in those possessed (at least more so than their regular historical counterparts).
  • In Crusader Kings their magic only appears to work through the blood of a single dynasty.
    • By the time of Europa Universalis, the artifacts' power has grown and they are able to possess any human ruler, and possibly other species, like the bears Jan Mayen.

The king in the live-action trailers is a CK2 player who's been warped back in time.
  • He knows the minimal basics of being a king, but dealing with actual people is lost on him. That's why he can plan a rather elaborate assassination scheme, but can't lead an army to save his life.

Japan will be added in a later expansion
  • Prior to this edit, this WMG read "Japan and China will be added in a later expansion. China was added in Jade Dragon.
