Cold War is a 2005 Stealth-Based Game created by Mindware Studios.

The game has the player take the role of Matthew Carter, a Journalist who finds himself framed as an CIA Assassin in a Conspiracy that aims to take control of the Soviet Union.

The game contains examples of:

  • Artificial Brilliance: Unlike a lot of stealth games, enemies can spot your traps and disarm them if they're left out in the open and not hidden in shadows/around corners.
  • Elite Mooks: Soviet Spetsnatz can't be knocked out with a punch, have Night Vision and use Assault Rifles unlike regular Guards.
  • Foregone Conclusion: If you know about history then It's clear that trying to prevent the Chernobyl meltdown will fail.
  • Guns Do Not Work That Way: You can't somehow turn regular bullets into Rubber Bullets with just a Plastic Bottle.
  • Hollywood Silencer: One of the craftable items made from a plastic bottle and rags that breaks after 3 shots.
  • Instant Sedation: Zig Zagged, the actual Anesthetics that you find can only be used to sedate an enemy that's already unconscious to keep them out longer but Chloroform made from Ether and Rags as well as craftable darts that you make take effect instantly on awake targets.
  • MacGyvering: Essentially the point of the game's crafting system, suppressors from a bottle and rags, improvised grenades fired from a slingshot and various types of mines.
  • Nuke 'em: Barinsky attempts to assassinate the President of Russia by luring him to Chernobyl as it goes critical.
  • Rule of Cool: A lot of the Gadgets are rather absurd for a Reporter to create on the fly.
  • See-Thru Specs: Carter's Camera is capable of this, allowing the player to see through walls to check for Guards.
  • Sound-Only Death: What happens to Sonya as Grushkov hears her succumb to radiation poisoning as he escapes from Chernobyl.
  • Video Game Cruelty Punishment: Killing a civilian is an automatic game over.
