Tomboy With A Girly Streak / Live-Action Films

  • Kat Stratford in 10 Things I Hate About You is a tough, fiery tomboy, who plays soccer and loves alternative rock music. However, she also grows a deep, romantic interest in Patrick, and is mentioned to have a crush on Jared Leto-whose pictures she keeps in her drawer. Plus she even dresses up for the prom, complete with accessories of pearls and roses.
  • Barbie (2023): Part of showing how Sasha's embarrassed by her once-enjoyment of Barbie and current dislike of her is how she is now wearing more masculine clothing—a hoodie, baggy pants, and dark blacks—and being cynical and argumentative. However over the course of her time in Barbieland she slowly ads more pink to her wardrobe, and by the end of her time in Barbieland and having come around, she's wearing a sparkly pink dress with her previously unstyled hair in a more feminine half-ponytail style with decorations.
  • Belle in Beauty and the Beast is portrayed as somewhat more of a tomboy than in the original animated film. There's her usual bookish and progressively feminist traits, and then she attempts direct sabotage of Gaston's attempt to kill the Beast during their climactic showdown which manages to briefly disable him. Plus, she refuses to be caught dead in a ridiculous excuse for a period dress born of French excesses of the era (complete with an equally ridiculous-looking wig). That said, her plain blue dress still symbolizes True Blue Femininity, and both she and her actress chose a rather tasteful and elegant golden, sparkly ballgown when the time came for her big date with the Beast depicted in the eponymous musical number. Not to mention, her favorite literary genre is romantic literature, with the mentioned highlights including Guinevere and Lancelot and Romeo and Juliet.
  • Aside from the leading ladies of Bend It Like Beckham, the other girls on the Hanslow Harriers team seem to be this. They go on and on about boys, partying, and fashion in the showers as much as Jess's girly sister.
  • Bring It On - Missy the resident tomboy only joins the cheerleading squad because the school has no gymnastics team. But she soon comes to enjoy being on the squad, even if she's a little uncomfortable at wearing the very feminine uniform.
  • Bridge to Terabithia: In the 2007 film there's Leslie, who likes sports, including both running and swimming, plus having boyish short hair while wearing less "feminine" clothing usually. She prefers the outdoors and leads Jess into the woods on many adventures. On the other hand, she also has Barbies she'd played with in the past and is still "girlish" in her mannerisms.
  • One of the minor characters of But I'm a Cheerleader is a softball-playing tomboy who, halfway through the movie, freaks out about having been confined to a re-education camp to cure her of lesbianism because, short hair and love of sports aside, she actually likes boys.
  • The Cave: Charle is a Tank-Top Tomboy who was raised in a dive shop and relishes rock climbing, but also seems to put some effort into styling her hair, wears a bikini nicely, and engages in a little girl talk with Katheryn.
  • Charlie's Angels (2000): Dylan likes rock music, bad boys, has a bit of a temper, and is generally a lot less girly than sophisticated Alex and Genki Girl Natalie. But she does wear skirts and dresses, including flowery ones.
  • A Cinderella Story: Sam is a very stereotypical tomboy of the Daddy's Girl variation - down-to-earth girl with a Tomboyish Name, who loathes cheerleaders, likes baseball and eating hamburgers, and occasionally wears a baseball cap. She also really wants her Cinderella moment, is really into pretty dresses, likes fairy tales, and she is much more interested in academics than sports (her sporty side is an Informed Attribute at best).
  • Drop Dead Gorgeous: Tammy is a varsity soccer player and track runner, the president of a gun club, smokes, and enjoys driving her father's thresher. She's also competing in a beauty pageant and is a favorite to win.
  • Danielle from Ever After is an opinionated outdoorsy tomboy, who takes the rare occasions where she gets to wear pretty dresses VERY seriously.
  • Moon from the Iron Angels Girls with Guns trilogy, who is a maniac when getting her hands on a weapon and can kick all kinds of ass, as well as single-handedly killing upwards to a hundred faceless mooks throughout the movies, yet in her introduction scene she is seen wearing high heels, painting her nails and making up her hair. And there are several instances of Moon wearing long, feminine dresses when not fighting baddies throughout the films.
  • Beverly in It (2017): she smokes, cuts her hair into a boyish cut, hangs out with the boys and is very quick to stick a fence spike into a Monster Clown. Though just taking a close look at her room reveals Beverly loves fairy tales and romance books, she gushes over a poem that Ben sends her and hides it away, and she starts wearing dresses and dolling herself up... unfortunately, this attracts the attention of her Pervert Dad.
  • The titular character of Little Annie Rooney is one. She's a rowdy kid who is the leader of a gang (consisting of other children) who gets into fights with boys constantly. Despite her frequently muddy and aggressive behavior, she has a softer side that she shows around her family and crush. She also cooks and cleans around her house as she has a Missing Mom.
  • Vada Sultenfuss in My Girl is a tomboy, who generally wears jeans, sneakers, and a baseball cap, and who is best friend with a boy. However, she also wears a mood ring and has a traditionally feminine-looking bedroom. Plus, she doesn't mind it at all when Shelly applies makeup to her face for fun, even admiring her new look.
  • Molly Grant of One Touch of Venus is a Deadpan Snarker and hyper-competent businesswoman, but even she dreams of finding someone to fall in love with.
  • Hallie from the Lindsay Lohan version of The Parent Trap - sporty, outdoorsy, and sassy, but also really likes her funky nail polish and accessories.
  • The Sandlot: Hayley and her friends from The Sandlot 2 are avid ballplayers who show some interest in Hayley's dad's rocket scientist work, but they also frequently sport feminine outfits and makeup and enjoy pool parties and petting cats. The "Where Are They Now?" Epilogue mentions that Hayley grows up to be both a supermodel and a gold medal-winning Olympian softball player.
  • Small Soldiers: Christy rides a moped, listens to Led Zeppelin, sneaks out of her house, wears fairly gender-neutral sweaters and jeans, and is embarrassed about having a doll collection, but she is seen attentively arranging a doll case in one scene and is apparently a baton twirler.
  • Watts in Some Kind of Wonderful is a Lad-ette, who plays the drums, and dresses like a boy (complete with boxers), though she also likes jewelry (specifically the diamond earrings that Keith gives her at the end), and secretly has deep, romantic feelings for Keith.
  • Switch (1991): Amanda, naturally. Just put the mind of a manly womanizer into a woman's body, and see what happens. Although she doesn't dress or fashion her hair like a man, she's still very much Steve inside. Still, she's quite happy to wear dresses at all times (even when not at her office job, which requires this), even buying some really expensive ones on Margo's dime.
  • Tragedy Girls: Sadie has a short haircut and slightly masculine clothing, but isn't averse to wearing dresses at times (like for her prom).
  • Tremors 6: A Cold Day in Hell: Valerie is an avid hunter who field dresses her own prey and wears clothing with the name of sports teams. She has encyclopedic knowledge of both weaponry and Graboids, and wears clothing with the names of sports teams, but she also wears a noticeable amount of makeup and jewelry.
  • Mari from Ultraman Cosmos: The First Contact, a prequel film set 8 years before the series, is One of the Boys who often hangs out with Musashi and the other guys in school, is into boyish activities like hiking, sports, and camping, and isn't afraid to cycle back home all alone through a dark forest. But she's still quite ladylike with adorable Girlish Pigtails and often wears a pink dress and skirt.
