The Sociopath / Power Rangers

Go To

With fun to watch villains and monsters, some of them stand out for being unempathetic and self centered, even beyond the usual.

  • Power Rangers in Space: Darkonda would be considered the scummiest in the Zordon Era. Caring only for himself? Check. A Lack of Empathy and complete enjoyment of all his crimes? Check. Use of deception and a Chronic Backstabbing Disorder? Check. That's pretty impressive for the first of these in the whole franchise, especially in an era with your typical cartoon Bad Bosses who have at least some redeeming feature in their otherwise evil personalities.
  • Power Rangers Lost Galaxy: Deviot shares this trope in the same way as Darkonda did last season. Sure there are some differences that keep him from being a copy and paste of Darkondra. None of those differences have anything to do with his personality: one of a selfish, backstabbing Hate Sink who isn't even loyal to his boss (except this time, he got away with the successful starscream attempt). When he forces Trakeena to fuse with him, he ends up spreading his sociopathy to her.
  • Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue: Queen Bansheera (the first of these to be Big Bad) has an extreme lack of care for anyone that is not named Queen Bansheera or anything that doesn't have to do with the restoration of her palace and ruling supreme. What makes her more horrible than the previous Big Bads that mistreat her minions is that unlike them, she doesn't have any type of loved one, or at least a Morality Pet. She has a son: Impus/Prince Olympius, but she sees him just as expendable to her as her non related minions. She never bats an eye to the fates of them either: whether it's directly by her like Vypra, indirectly like Loki, by others of her kind as is the case of her son, or by the rangers like Diablolico, Olympius, and Jinxer, yet expects them to remain grateful to her even though she never is back.
  • Power Rangers Time Force: Venomark. In a series where the Big Bads garner some sympathy and/or have some kind of altruism in them, Venomark is the embodiment of what humans believe mutants are, other than Ransik (and even he ultimately turns a new leaf), as he pretty much takes sadistic joy in infecting anyone he comes across, even other mutants, and is not truly loyal to anyone, cowardly running whenever a bigger threat bests him in combat.
  • Power Rangers Wild Force: Dr. Viktor Adler/Master Org might be the most well-known. The reason is because he was a human, yet his backstory involves him murdering his former friends: one for his stealing his love and the other being said love for not returning his feelings, and not only had zero remorse over it, but claims that it's a rightful revenge, twisting his own reality to look like the victim. As the new Master Org, he is willingly to destroy humanity for his deluded suffering, not caring in the slightest what humans and Orgs are hurt or killed in the process.
  • Power Rangers Ninja Storm: Vexacus is a bounty hunter who is loyal only to his own agenda. He kills two of Lothor's generals in order to climb his way to Lothor so he can overthrow him and didn't have much of a good history with him to begin with. He has no problem with stealing power, as he tried to do with Skyla. Even Lothor, with his own hidden master plan and rather callous regard for his own family, is unable to come to his level given his Laughably Evil demeanor, which Vexacus doesn't have.
  • Power Rangers S.P.D.:
    • Emperor Grumm is a selfish and sadistic individual who feels no remorse for (and in fact is even proud of) the many planets he destroyed. He has all the power in the Troobian Empire he rules and yet is so ridiculously petty that he wants to satisfy is grudge against Cruger for damaging one of his horns, never mind that he started it himself by invading his homeworld and killing his people (except his wife, who he kidnapped). Cruel to both opponent and minion alike, he will hurt whoever he wants to conquer worlds with zero regard from who suffers by his hand or his master Omni's. He is even cunning enough to use the typical way of sending monsters to attack Earth as a distraction to steal the planet's resources in order to build the Magnificence. This extends even to Omni, as when he was destroyed, Gruumm was more concerned with finally settling the score with Cruger than taking any time to mourn his death.
    • Broodwing is a vicious Arms Dealer who only cares about his own profits, consequences to the Earth and the universe be darned, and only betrays Grumm for calling off his payment rather than out of any altruism.
  • Power Rangers Mystic Force: has two Morlocks who would qualify
    • Octomus the Master is motivated only For the Evulz. He has an unhealthy dose of sadism, a lack of empathy in brainwashing and killing heroes, and a hatred for any type of goodness.
    • Imperious (originally Calindor) has betrayed the Mystic Ones long ago simply because he felt good using dark magic and also attempts to overthrow the Master for more power. He is somewhat charming, but has a love of self-worth and underhanded tricks.
  • Power Rangers Operation Overdrive:
  • Power Rangers Super Samurai: Serrator is the unrepentant Nighlok King who cursed Dayu and Deker to live on as Nighloks two centuries prior and is still using him to screwing everyone (including them) over. He is uncaring towards both sides, as his evil plan involves endangering both worlds to make both his own. Even Master Xandred, who isn't someone you'd want to work with, isn't a cold as Serrator, who betrays him the instant their goals are no longer aligned.
  • Power Rangers Megaforce & Super Megaforce: Prince Vrak has manipulated both ranger and villain alike, cruelly left Metal Alice to self-destruct in spite of saving his life, and mocked his own brother when he is killed. Even his allegiance to the Armada ruled by his father Emperor Mavro, he'll put on the backburner when he wants to satisfy his own ego and pettiness.
  • Power Rangers Ninja Steel / Super Ninja Steel
    • Madame Odius is basically a female Vrak and then more. She is willing to do anything to get the Nexus Prism's powers, even putting her allies under a bus, has managed to fool even the rangers into thinking she has loyalty to Galvanax while secretly acting against him, and she is smug and sadistic when facing her enemies in person. Plus, it's clear in its super season that if she doesn't double cross an ally, it will be because she views him or her as an asset rather than any sense of morality.
    • The aforementioned Galvanax is by no means better. He has enough superficial charm to garner up a large fanbase for himself and his show, a grandiose sense of self to the point of wanting to keep his reputation, manipulating even other galactic governments into reign changes like his attempt with Drillion against Princess Viera, a complete refusal to acknowledge his mistakes even when proven wrong or even regret anything he's done, and quick jumps to anger when he doesn't get his way, having no problem enslaving innocents or threatening his own subordinates if it serves his purpose.
  • Power Rangers Cosmic Fury: Bajillia Naire is among the most selfish individuals in the universe, showing only superficial politeness for PR purposes, lacking any sympathy towards even her daughter and Lord Zedd, and gleefully seeking to create a reverse Z-Wave just so her company profits would continue uninterrupted. If Void Queen had zero redeeming qualities, this would be the result.

Cross-Series:

  • Venjix from the RPM Dimension may be a virus rather than a biological being, but he still has enough of a sociopathic personality to qualify. In Power Rangers RPM, He betrayed his creator of his own free will, feels nothing for killing or brainwashing of the human population and abuses his own robot creations for any reason he comes up with, showing he cares for nothing but himself and enjoys bringing an end to humanity. As Evox in Power Rangers Beast Morphers, the only thing that changed is him being more pragmatic and creating beings unable to betray him like Shifter and Kilobyte. He still doesn't care what he has to do in order to take over the Morphin Grid and repeat his near genocide on the main universe.

Other Material

  • Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie: Ivan Ooze, no matter how silly he is, shows himself to be a very sociopathic being, who will not only betray other vilains like Rita and Zedd, but will do anything without remorse, even mass brainwashing and mass assisted suicide, just to bring the universe back to the tyannical state which he ruled under long ago. The closest he has to any concern for anything other than himself is his Ecto-Morphicons, and even then, it's more due to them being useful projects that he has no problem possessing if it's convenient to him.
  • Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers (Boom! Studios): Tommy Oliver's alternate self, Lord Drakkon is a high functioning example. Lack of empathy? Check. Consummate manipulator? Believe it. Pathological need for stimulation? Likes to kill who he can to make his existence worthwhile. Lack of reciprocity? It's all about him, so don't even try to work with him. And grandiose sense of self-worth? Sees himself as the only perfect Tommy. Pretty much whatever our universe's Tommy Oliver is, Drakkon is not.
  • Power Rangers (2017): Rita Repulsa in the show, despite her Bad Boss tendencies and love for being evil, never came close to being as sociopathic as her counterpart in the 2017 film and the one time she was that way in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always was simply because her evil essence left her after the Z-Wave to possess a robot body. This adaptation of Rita doesn't have any of the restraint and loved ones the original has (and that's saying something since she is NOT Witch Bandora levels of sympathetic), being an ambitious traitor who feels nothing about killing her own ranger team as well as Billy when he's no longer useful to her, or even innocent people in order to get the power she believes she deserves. Also, she's so gleeful, narcissistic, and ruthless, that even the entirety of her homeworld's population being wiped out as a result of her actions doesn't concern her in the slightest, and in fact she likes it.
