The Friend Nobody Likes / Total Drama

Go To

Given the competitive nature of Total Drama, there’s bound to be quite many characters end up being The Friend Nobody Likes to their teammates.

First Generation

  • Heather: Her status as the main antagonist of season 1 and the Alpha Bitch serve as to why almost everyone hates her. She manipulates several players, orchestrates countless eliminations, says occasional racist comments towards Leshawna, stole Gwen’s diary, kissed Gwen’s boyfriend, and betrays her closest allies. Towards the end of the first season, everyone knows of her true nature and despises her, to the point that Harold is the only one willing to work with her. In the second and third seasons, everyone can’t stand having to work with Heather even after bigger threats appear. This is seen in the season 3 finale where Alejandro has more supporters than Heather, and that the only person who initially was on her team didn’t even want to be on her team.
  • Courtney: Courtney takes all of Heather’s nastiness and becomes an Academic Alpha Bitch in the second season. Somehow, she’s even worse than Heather, as she unfairly gets advantages in the game, is physically intimidating, borderline abuses her boyfriend, and is willing to risk the lives of her fellow contestants just for the money. Even Heather and Alejandro have more friends than her, and she’s bitter enough to be the only person not happy for Heather when she wins World Tour. Even in Island, when Courtney is at her most civil, she does not get along with most of the other contestants due to her bossy nature and selfish attitude. When she protests that her elimination was unfair because Harold rigged the votes, the other eliminated campers give her No Sympathy.
Eva: Didn't see it. Don't care.
Lindsay: You just would have been kicked off in another episode. No one liked you that much.
Noah: You're here! You lost! Get over it!
  • Alejandro: For the same reasons listed above, Alejandro is described as “Heather only with social skills”. By charming and manipulating everyone, causing almost every elimination in his titular season, and being even more ruthless than past antagonists, Alejandro cements himself as the most manipulative player in Total Drama history, making everyone wary of him. Mal takes advantage of this to convince everyone that he got Cameron injured in All Stars and cause his elimination.
  • Harold: Downplayed. Harold isn’t hated, per se, but he’s definitely the most belittled and least respected member of the cast due to his boring and nerdy personality. In various episodes of Island, he can be found in the bottom two, even when he didn’t do anything wrong. However, when he pulls through and wins a game, Harold's teammates respect and appreciate him. People generally seem to like him so long as he's not spouting off irrelevant knowledge, as he's quite sensitive and at least tries in challenges.
  • Gwen: A generally well-liked contestant with a respectable amount of rivals, Gwen becomes one of the most hated characters in World Tour after kissing Courtney’s boyfriend, more so than the cheater himself, Duncan. Every girl on her team hates her and wants her gone (though to be fair, Heather only does it to keep the target off herself and Sierra already has a grudge against her because of Cody's attraction to her), prompting Courtney of all people to throw challenges just so she can eliminate her. This is downplayed though as Cody is still on good terms with her, Heather eventually sides with her once she gets frustrated with Courtney constantly throwing challenges to get Gwen eliminated, Sierra lets go of her grudge against her in All Stars, and everyone on the Aftermath is still on good terms with her (with only Courtney still holding a grudge against her by the time of All Stars).
  • Eva: Eva’s persistently feared by her fellow campers because of her short-fuse and incredible strength. She gets eliminated for it the second she rages all over the island, and gets kicked off for a second time in the same episode she returned.
  • Noah: He may be generally respected and tolerated in later seasons, but he was this in Island due to not participating in the dodgeball challenge and later criticizing his teammates for their poor effort.
  • Ezekiel: His initial sexist comments in season 1 cause him to become disliked among the female contestants, leading to him becoming the first boot in the franchise. This continues in season 3 as while he is no longer sexist, his newfound arrogant behavior ends up annoying everyone and him losing Team Victory's stick needed to avoid elimination seals his fate as being eliminated early again. It is telling that no one appears to be concerned for him when he eventually becomes feral over the course of season 3 and remains this way for the remainder of the series.

Second Generation

  • Scott: The Arc Villain of Revenge of the Island. On top of being a Jerkass, Scott frequently sabotages his own team and incriminates other players to get ahead of the game, a strategy that people only discover once it’s too late for that. His most dirty work includes blackmailing Mike about his mental disorder only to eliminate him in the same episode.
  • Jo: She forms plenty of enemies during her time on the Island due to her take-no-prisoners attitude, competitive spirit, and need to dominate at all times.
  • Staci: While not hated at the same level as Scott and Jo, Staci is immensely disliked by her peers due to constantly lying about her family’s so-called contributions to society. Little wonder why she was eliminated first.
  • Lightning: His Jerk Jock behavior, egotistical attitude, arrogance, and stupidity cause him to be disliked by everyone, eventually becoming the second one eliminated in All Stars.

Third Generation

  • Sugar: She winds up being this because of her Fat Bastard pageant queen persona, gross-out humor, and high self-esteem. Even when she’s presented as an option for the finalists’ helpers, they can’t help but shudder in fear.

Fourth Generation

  • Bowie: After spending the first season as an athletic strategist and causing quite a few eliminations, most of the contestants show disdain for Bowie, sans Raj and Wayne. Bowie’s immediately called out for his rotten behavior in the first episode of the second season, and his “apology” doesn’t make his reputation any better. Julia takes advantage of this by claiming to Team Rat Face that cheating in challenges was Bowie's idea to get him eliminated in "Canoe Believe It?"
  • Caleb: He was not this at all in the first season, with everyone admiring how handsome he was, and he appeared to be a polite young man. Everyone liked him, but unfortunately, he was voted off early by the first season's villain, so he didn't get a lot of characterization. In season two, he is determined to get further and win the competition, and he is shown to be a genuinely nice guy despite his desire to win. Unfortunately, he has a flaw of not noticing romantic feelings towards him because he lacks experience dating, so when Priya gains a crush on him and shows interest in him, he assumes that she just wants to make an alliance with him. And while he genuinely likes Priya as a friend, he considers their relationship more of a partnership in the competition. Unfortunately for him, Zee knows that Priya has feelings for him, and when he tells Zee that he plans on making an alliance with her, he can't tell Priya that because he promised to keep it a secret. Later, when he gains genuine feelings for Priya, Zee wrongfully assumes that he is using her feelings for him to manipulate her into making an alliance, so when he kisses Priya, Zee tells everyone that he plans on just using her for an alliance, making everyone mad at him and think he's just been playing with her heart. He sheds this status by the end of the season after making amends with Priya and ends up having more supporters than Julia in the final 3.
  • Chase: His obnoxious and narcissistic attitude makes it so nobody can stand him with even the Big Bads Julia and Bowie disgusted with what a terrible boyfriend he is to Emma. Even Ripper (who was one of his few friends in their debut season) grows sick of him in their second season.
  • Emma: Her blind devotion to Chase and aggressive attitude causes her to be one of the least popular within the cast, eventually becoming the odd girl out in Rat Face's friendships and alliances. Even her friendship with Bowie in their debut season falls apart over his dislike of Chase.
  • Julia: Once revealed to be faking her Granola Girl influencer personality, Julia becomes a lot more vicious and cruel, making all of the other campers despise her. The only reason she makes it so far is because she keeps winning challenges. By the time of the final 3 in her second season, MK is the only one who roots for her.
  • Millie: Her pushing Damien down the "Death Boot" slide against his will causes her to become a disliked player for her amoral actions (even her Only Friend Priya is disgusted by this) and leads to her elimination the following episode (despite doing nothing wrong there).
  • MK: Her antisocial attitude causes her to be one of the least popular with only Julia being on good terms with her by the following season (due to her similar antagonistic behavior). Not helping her reputation is when Rat Face finds out in the following season about her cheating in challenges and are angry with her, only avoiding being immediately eliminated at the start of the merge due to Julia convincing everyone that Bowie gave her the idea in the first place.
  • Ripper: Ripper is a constantly hated presence by many because of his rude personality, constantly calling anyone with above-average intelligence a nerd, grossness, and crude gameplay. This even leads to Damien calling Millie “A Ripper” as an insult. Though Axel does warm up to him in season 2 when he Took a Level in Kindness and developed a crush on her and Zee and Wayne are on good terms with him.
  • Scary Girl: Her creepy nature, Ambiguously Human antics, and desire to see others suffer isolates her from everyone and leads her to her early eliminations. Even when she’s trying to be normal, it doesn’t help that she stalked her teammates to be more like them.
  • Zee: He was not originally this, with him being an All-Loving Hero and getting along with all of his teammates. Unfortunately, in the second season, in the episode where he was voted off, his case of loose lips makes him majorly disliked when he starts sharing everyone's most embarrassing secrets, making them all uncomfortable around him. This caused him to be voted off in the episode.
