  • There's a nice shout out in the opening chapter of Benedict Jacka's Fated. "I've even heard of some guy in Chicago who advertises in the phone book under 'Wizard', though that's probably an urban legend."
  • The Laundry Files: The Fuller Memorandum has Bob idly reading a novel about a private magician for hire in Chicago. A later vampire-related case is named DRESDEN RICE. In The Annihilation Score Mo believes that she's narrowly avoided a 'soulgaze' with Ramona.
  • Rivers of London: In Whispers Under Ground the beer at the Nazareth is called "Mac's" and from a microbrewery in the States. In Chicago, perhaps? And Peter, after having some, thinks it ought to be served at room temperature.
  • The Sookie Stackhouse Mysteries: The short story "Bacon" from the anthology Strange Brew contains a The Dresden Files Shout-Out:
"Actually, a girl can't make a living at full-time sorcery anymore," Kathy [a witch] said with a brave smile. "Not with so many of the supernaturals trying to do things the official, human way. The only sorcerer who's gone public is in Chicago, and I hear he's struggling."

Live-Action TV

  • APB: The most prominent cop in the show is a detective named Murphy paired up with a wisecracking smart guy who isn't really a cop, he just helps the cops out. For bonus points, the TV version of Murphy was changed to a Hispanic woman, and APB's Murphy is Hispanic on her mother's side.
  • Elementary: features a mathematician called Harold Dresden.

  • Spoony's Campaign: The basic plot of the game is effectively identical to Dead Beat: The Big Bad is an evil magic-user who wants to become a god, and in order to achieve this goal is seeking out a powerful grimore written by a legendary necromancer. The Tome of Eldritch Lore in both stories even share a name, the only difference being the author's name ("The Word of Morgana/Kemmler"). Other than that, though, Spoony's story really has nothing in common with Jim Butcher's.
