- Chuck from Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt is a very blatant Expy of GIR's dog costume, down to the green skin and zippers. Jhonen immediately took notice, stating that he's, "found his own version of Mr. Sparkle."
- Sorrowful and Immaculate Hearts: In "Arm Candy", Alex's cat Dib is named after the character.
- Childish Gambino's "Bonfire" has wordplay with "grr" and GIR.

- Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel!: In the character select screen, Claptrap's combat style is described as, "it's not stupid, it's advanced!"
- South Park: The Fractured but Whole: The Sloppy 2nds thrift store features numerous Shout-Outs to other media, including a shirt depicting a blue-colored GIR◊.
- Girl Genius: Seffie's masquerade ball has guests dressed as Yami Yugi, Professor Membrane and Carmen Sandiego amongst others.
- Hazbin Hotel: There is a visual reference to Tallest Red and Tallest Purple during Charlie's song. There is also a character wearing a GIR hoodie in one of the scenes in Helluva Boss.
- Murder Drones: In a promotional image for the first season, Uzi is seen wearing a shirt that clearly features GIR riding a pig. This design also references real Invader Zim merchandise.
- Avatar: The Last Airbender: The second season episode "City of Walls and Secrets" features a gag involving an odd man absent-mindedly sucking on a corncob. According to Avatar co-creator Bryan Konietzko, who had been an art director on Invader Zim, this was a reference to the latter show. Since he didn't specify, fans are unclear which moment it references, as there are several corn jokes in Zim. The most likely candidate, however, is the scene in "Gaz, Taster of Pork" where Dib talks to a "dirty hobo" holding a corncob.
- Gravity Falls: The first thing Dipper says after looking at his clone Tyrone is that he has a large head.
- The Loud House: In "Linc Or Swim", Ms. Bitters makes a cameo appearance. She is seen in the first community pool, alongside Lou Pickles, Phil Shortman, Iroh, and Miss Fowl.
