Anime and Manga
- Student Council's Discretion:
- Sakurano angrily shouts “Uso Da!” (The phrase can be translated as, "That's a lie!" or "Lies!" in English) with the camera zoomed in on her face in reference to Rena's Signature Scene.
- Magiru-sensei tells the student council that she would prefer they debate with bats and hatchets. She then expresses that her dream is transferring to Hinamizawa.
- In Silver Spoon, Hachiken comes upon a wood burning pizza oven in the woods, buried in piles of junk. One of the items he pulls from the junk, similarly to Higurashi, is a discarded Colonel Sanders statue.
Video Games
- Starting with the 4th game, Disgaea has Rena’s signature billhook make an appearance as a sword sprite once per game.
Visual Novels
- In the Russian visual novel Everlasting Summer, Semyon mishears the name Lena as Rena and freaks out, envisioning the silhouette of a crazed girl wielding a hatchet.
Western Animation
- The Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated episode “When the Cicada Calls” has a pretty obvious reference to Higurashi in its title. Some of the episode’s plot points also parallel those of Higurashi (a festival casually celebrating a monster, a hospital patient having a fear-induced heart attack), and it's also possible that the show's story as a whole was also influenced by Higurashi.
