Portmanteau Couple Name / Fan Works

Go To

  • The fanfic collaboration "Shore Leave," where three authors placed various male characters from Pirates of the Caribbean, Aubrey-Maturin, Horatio Hornblower, and Sharpe in an orgy together. They included a commentary, where they and their editor related some of the pormanteaus they'd invented in the process of writing: Bushington, Shardrey, and Sparrowblower.
  • In this Psych fic, Shawn says that if he and Lassiter were to have a child through surrogacy, he wants to cross Jules and Gus so that he can have his own Gules, and that he'd name him Julius.
  • In the Fullmetal Alchemist/Ouran High School Host Club crossover The Bank Called, Your Reality Check Bounced, the trope is not only used, but named and even defined for the reader when Tamaki announces the launch of "Operation Elricbell" to get Ed Elric and Winry Rockbell together.
  • Child of the Storm has generated "Carry", from Harry Thorson (formerly Potter) and Carol Danvers, the Fan-Preferred Couple, even though they have yet to do more than platonically share a bed and admittedly ludicrous amounts of UST... and admitted that they love each other, at least in a platonic sense, and that they're attracted to each other. Word of God, who has so far refused to be drawn on whether they'll ultimately get together, has admitted that he thinks it's cute. In chapter 46 of the sequel, they finally get together.
    • The same couple has also generated "Harol" and "Magic Lantern". They're really rather popular.
    • And Harry Dresden/Wanda Maximoff has generated "Dresdimoff".
    • Diana and Ginny have generated "Dianny".
  • The The Hunger Games fanfic Some Semblance of Meaning has "Valesidian" (Vale Whitaker/Obsidian Citrine). Not only do the author and some of the reviewers refer to the pairing by this name, but even the story itself does it at least once (while mocking the shippers in the Capitol).
  • Regular Show fanfic "Asleep in a Blizzard" has "Benlyn" (Benson and Evelyn), which honestly sounds more like a cough medicine.
  • The fanfic MST Play MST-y for Me makes fun of this trope, for instance in Episode Two, featuring a Smash story:
... I waited two years for an amazing Cartwills moment, and it never happened! ... I hope that you enjoy my story. Please leave comments! Jodi
Kay: Rest assured, Jodi, we have plenty of comments for you.
Ivy Lynn: What does she mean, “Cartwills”? She thinks Karen belongs with Derek?
Phil: That’s right. And those cutesy combined names got old years ago. I have to rebuke CBS.com every so often for doing it.
  • The future fanfic series "Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL the Future" has as protagonist Yuko Tsukumo. Her name comes from her parents' ones: Yuma and Kotori.
  • Reviewers of the The Rocky Horror Picture Show fanfic A Sci-Fi Fan's Adventure invented the horrible nickname 'Faygenta' in an attempt to combine original character Fay and The Rocky Horror Picture Show character Magenta.
  • All the possible pairings in the Rise of the Brave Tangled Dragons fandom are usually tagged this way:
    • Jackunzel for Jack Frost and Rapunzel.
    • Mericcup for Merida and Hiccup.
    • Jarida for Jack and Merida
    • Hijack for Hiccup and Jack
    • Meripunzel for Merida and Rapunzel.
  • One of the two main ship names for Rei/Kaworu in Advice and Trust is TsundeReinbowTrout based off of their Fan Nicknames (TsundeRei and Rainbow Trout).note
  • The fans of Forest of Despair really love giving these names to all of the ships possible. For example, the most popular ship, that of the pairing of Akita and Mitsuru, is called Mita.
  • Discussed in It Could Be Worse, which opens with Deadpool talking about Oliver Queen and Felicity Smoak, known as "Olicity". He then comments that's a stupid name for a couple, and the entire idea of putting the characters' names together to get the couple name is deeply stupid in and of itself. "Smoaking Arrow" would be much cooler.
  • The trope is invoked in Skyhold Academy Yearbook when original characters Rory and Jim explain "Cullevelyan" to their friend Nessa.
  • The Maribat AU has the main Crossover Ship Daminette (Damian Wayne A.K.A Robin x Marinette Dupain-Cheng A.K.A Ladybug) A.K.A. MariDami. There are other ships also such as:
    • Timette (Tim Drake A.K.A Red Robin x Marinette)
    • Jasonette (Jason Todd A.K.A Red Hood x Marinette)
    • Marijon (Jonathan Kent A.K.A Superboy x Marinette)
      • Even though he is technically not part of the Bat Family, Marinette is usually tied to them in some way in these fics.
  • A Thing of Vikings has Hiccwulfstrid for Hiccup/Astrid/Wulfhild, a modification of the more well-known Hiccstrid.
