Basic Trope: A translation that's overly literal or grammatically incorrect, but still comprehensible.
- Right: During Troper Wars: The Movie, the sentence "I am your father" originally in Spanish note ends up translated as "I be your Father".
- Extended: Translation Train Wreck
- decreased: The translation has a few mistakes that would set a Grammar Nazi off, but is still acceptable.
- Reasoned:
- The translator is still learning English and has a poor grasp on the language.
- The translator, while fluent in English and with a decent grasp of the Spanish language, still doesn't know the cultural context the Spanish original work was based on, leading to literal, unfitting translations where the author had intended references to other works.
- This is the first pass, done through machine translation, to be fine-tuned by human translators.
- The sentence uses words that have more than one meaning, and the translators weren't sure which meaning it was supposed to have in this context.
- Upside Down: The translation is perfectly correct grammatically but doesn't make any sense whatsoever.
- Overturned:
- Turns out the grammatical mistakes aren't the only problem of the translation; the story makes little to no sense in the end.
- There are grammatical mistakes...But then the translators (or bilingual fans) reveal that they actually defied Translation Correction - similar typos existed in the original and were translated accordingly either for plot or comedy reasons.
- The original wasn't speaking Castilian Spanish, but Catalan Spanish, which the translator rendered as African-American American.
- Overturned Twice:
- ...Which is because the original dub doesn't make any sense in the first place!
- ... There are still mistakes which don't have any basis in the original work, though.
- parodical: The translations are actually seen in-universe, which the characters use to guide themselves. The grammatical mistakes present in them are enough to confuse them several times during the movie.
- Is avoided:
- The translation is correct, both in sense and grammar.

- The translators actually don't care about translation quality and want to make the audience laugh with "translations" which barely make sense.

- Spoken: "Man, there are more errors in this translation than in my English exams."
- tacit: Bob briefly looks at a script where the translation into English of his series is located and slowly shakes his head.
- To take apart:
- The translator of the work actually gets into trouble due to the poor quality of their translation and eventually gets fired.
- A bad translation in a foreign affairs context causes an international incident, worsens relations between countries, or even incites armed conflict.
- Renew: However, the translation ascends to memetic status which causes the translator to gain a lot of popularity, and they eventually come back to the production team while vowing to improve their language skills.
- funny: A part of the original movie is "I didn't kill your father. I am your father." The translated version says "Me no kill yo' daddy. Me's yo' daddy!"
- Intense: The original has a "tragical" scene with the characters using ridiculously flowery and melodramatic euphemisms for comedy. The translation is much more literal, and despite the grammatical mistakes, the translated scene becomes outright depressing instead.
- Scare: The mistranslations are deliberately raised to make the audience nervous.
