One Scene Wonder / Other Media

  • R.O.B. the Video Robot was hardly a "wonder" for the NES (more like a one-scene failure), but it did have a Moment of Awesome in this 1986 commercial for Toys R Us.
  • BIONICLE
    • The Exo-Toa Powered Armor robot is one of the most sought-after and hard to get sets due to its popularity with the fans. But as the head of the Story Team reportedly disliked the toy, he specifically instructed the writers not to give it much of an impact in any media, so the armors were only used by the heroes for half a scene (an admittedly awesome scene) in the comics and novels before they discarded them for blocking their powers, and had only a handful minor cameos afterwards. In fact their biggest contributions to the story were when their destroyed pieces crushed a villain and that they were a primary form of attack for Makuta Teridax when he took over the Great Spirit Robot, other than the Rahkshi.
    • The Skopio XV-1, an impressive transforming Spider Tank, the king-piece of BIONICLE's 2009 line, and also its largest (piecewise) and most expensive (at the time of release) set ever, only appeared in a short side-story released in a Polish magazine, in which it got promptly trashed by the heroes and was never used again. Granted, the Skopio beast, which the XV-1 tank has been modeled after according to the story, had a memorable appearance in one of the Direct-to-DVD movies, and it was even animated to look almost exactly like the Skopio set (which, again, represented an artificial Skopio, not the actual animal), however it also lasted for only a single scene.
    • Takanuva's flying Cool Bike, the Ussanui, is only in the story for a few seconds 'till he crashes it. Similarly, Vultraz's Skyfighter jet and Mazeka's Swamp Strider are the main reasons to get their toys but the vehicles only make a brief, throwaway appearance in the story.
    • The Shadow Toa appear in one scene in the novel Tale of the Toa and meet their end in a defeat that was later rewritten in the Encyclopedia. Additional material featuring them was only included in LEGO's own internal documents and not officially published. Though the concept of evil or corrupted Toa was revisited, the idea that Shadow Toa can be created as "clones" of regular Toa never made a comeback.
  • Magic: The Gathering's expansion Guildpact featured, on a single card, Fblthp, a little lost Homunculous. The card, Totally Lost, is not usable for competative play, but is still fondly remembered. He eventually became popular enough to warrant a plushie!
  • hololive: The normally-behind-the-scenes manager of the English branch hopped in as the fourth player for a round of Left 4 Dead 2 that was being played during one collaboration stream only because there were three active members playing and they needed a way to prevent random outsiders from joining the game. The original plan was just to have her stand idle at the spawn point, but the audience persuaded her to join in. She soon proved herself to be a really good player, culminating in taking down a Tank with a katana despite being one hit away from dying the whole way through. Fans quickly latched on to her, creating an unofficial character named Enma (short for English Manager) with tons of fan art and Ina eventually creating an official version of Enma with said manager's consult.
