Examples of Moral Event Horizon in Until Dawn:

  • Josh's plan can cause some players to lose sympathy for him due to subjecting Chris and Sam (who both had nothing to do with the disappearance of his sisters), and Ashley (who can be considered a passive participant at worst) to a series of elaborate and cruel pranks that could have killed the three if his plans went wrong, and never seems to target the other friends (Jessica, Emily, Mike, and Matt) who had more to do with the prank than the other three had done.
  • In universe, the eating of another human's flesh is such a monstrous act it turns the perpetrator into an inhuman monster.
  • Depending on the player and character's point of view, either Ashley or Chris can cross this in a certain scenario involving the Chris vs Ashley trap. On one hand, Ashley can lock Chris out of the lodge and leave him to be killed by the Wendigos out of spite, should Chris decide to shoot Ashley in a moment of panic. On the other hand, Chris can decide to intentionally execute his own girlfriend twice in a row, one to save Josh's life or to save his own skin, leaving his own death by the Wendigo's hand a Karmic Death in the latter decision.
    • One could also Take a Third Option instead and hold Josh accountable for deliberately setting up a scenario where both Chris (who is Josh's best friend and confidant) and Ashley were led to believe that one has to kill the other to survive, else face being brutally torn apart by descending saw-blades from the ceiling, which would be liable to cause lasting scars to whoever survives the horrific ordeal.
  • Ashley can also cross this should she choose to hide the truth from Sam about the bite not being infectious if Mike had shot Emily dead beforehand. In-Universe, this will cause her relationship value with Sam drop to 0, as Sam will still grab the Stranger's journal from her and read it herself, and presumably realizes the truth.
  • Emily can potentially cross this if Ashley reveals the truth about her bite from a Wendigo not being infectious, which causes Emily to hold a grudge against Ashley; during the finale where if she is still alive and being chased by the Wendigo, Emily will push Ashley from behind, putting her at a greater risk of either being killed by a Wendigo or getting caught in the blast if Sam hits the switch early.
  • Emily can also cross this at the end of the game if Matt makes the choice to save Emily from falling to her death after the fire tower collapse, while Emily and Matt's relationship values is relatively low. If she survives, Emily will then lie to the police and state that Matt had deliberately left her to die, all because Matt did not do enough to appease to Emily's own needs before the events of the fire tower. This can be especially infuriating to some players if Matt's decision to save Emily gets him killed, as Emily will still spitefully tell the police to not bother go looking for his dead body.
  • Mike can cross this in-universe if the player makes the decision to shoot Emily over her bite wound from a Wendigo, which causes everyone in the room - Ashley included - to have their relationship value with Mike drop to 0. There's also how his own Character Trait shows an increase in 'Honest' and 'Funny' value, which may show a dark interpretation of his character.
