Have you heard? Has anyone told you? The Rumor of the Magia Record Memes.
Please add entries in the following format:- The meme. [[labelnote:Explanation]]The explanation behind the meme, if necessary.[[/labelnote]] ExplanationLike this.
- Further mutations and successor memes, if any.
- Until the middle of January 2018, any Twitter announcements of a new 4* magical girl inevitably had someone posting a sad picture of Sayaka from the original anime. This is because Sayaka hadn't been released yet. When Sayaka finally appeared there was much fanfare.
- 50/100.ExplanationCharacters in-game usually describe Tsuruno's restaurant foods with 50/100, in that it tastes mediocre despite them not really being able to put where it's mediocre on. The fans then roll with it, using 50/100 as an adjective for Tsuruno-related things.
- "Okay! I'm gonna kill myself!◊"ExplanationWhile she doesn't say this line exactly, Asuka Tatsuki is a Cloud Cuckoolander who announces she will she will self-harm or even commit seppuku (localized as suicide by the NA server, giving overseas fans a much less favorable view of her character) if she messes up. Played for laughs.
- A Magia Report comic has Sayaka wear a paper bag on her head as part of a protest against her absence in the game. Fanart later popped up with the paper bag going to Nagisa, and to a lesser extent the Homura without glasses.
- The fact that it took nearly a year for Mirrors to get an update has caused some jokes to be made. The Mirrors plot stalled on a Cliffhanger involving Rika; this led to people joking she was dead.
- Too much maintenance! ExplanationA joke among the Magireco community spawned from the frequent amounts of maintenance done on the North American servers, often consecutively one after the other to the detriment of players. It was popularized by this fan comic◊.
- ApologemsExplanationFan Nickname for gems which are given as compensation usually due to maintenance.
- snaa◊ExplanationA derpy-looking plush of Sana that has become popular in the community, getting fanart and being a common reaction image.
- Kanae メッセージExplanation Untranslated notification NA players received during the Voices from Beyond event about the current Rate up gacha for Kanae and Mel. It basically translates to just "Kanae Message". This causes a minor laugh about Kanae is messaging the playerbase from the afterlife.
- Replacing the music of the ED of the anime, like here.
- Who's Chelsea?ExplanationThe official translation of Magia Report chapter 26 replaces Mayu as the rate up girl on the current banner with a mysterious person named "Chelsea". Fans immediately speculated that Chelsea might be the leaked name of the NA exclusive (later Jossed when the NA exclusive's name was revealed to be Ashley Taylor). The translation has since been removed from the official Twitter where it was posted.
- Where's Kuroe?ExplanationAfter her debut in the first episode and her subsequent disappearance for the rest of the season once the game's main story kicked in, anime viewers would continuously wonder about anime original character Kuroe's whereabouts in every episode. She finally returns in the 13th episode of the anime among the Black Feathers in a split-second voiceless cameo.
- Kuroe is Kuro!ExplanationA common fan theory due to Kuroe's design resembling Kuro. Gained traction when Episode 13 showed Kuroe joining the Wings of Magius, although eventually Jossed when Kuroe was added to the game.
- Kuroe has more screentime in Magia Report than the anime.ExplanationNo, really. She appeared twice in Season 1 of the anime. In Magia Report she appears in three comics: S2E115, 121, and 123.
- #NATempoExplanationRefers to the NA server's accelerated schedule relative to JP. Usually in reference to an event being moved out of order (Magia Clash), a holiday event being moved out of place (e.g. the April Fools' Day event FM Kamihama, the first anniversary event Hereafter/The Rumor of the Rumor of the Rumor, the summer event The Ribbon at the Beach/Beachside Bonds), or the release of multiple events with sought-after limited banners in a row (Ultimate Madoka, Ashley Taylor, a Holy Mami rerun, Cool Homura, Nagisa Momoe, and Swimsuit Homura were all released within two months, then an Ashley Taylor rerun and the Eternal Sakura release happened at the same time).
- Sayaka lends a hand.ExplanationSimilar to the "losing your head" jokes, in the Sayaka vs. Holy Mami fight in the anime's Episode 13 Sayaka loses her arm.
- Solo KuroExplanationKuro is capped at one star and only has one slot, making her the weakest girl in the game. If your PvP team is a solo Kuro, the only PvP teams you can win against are other solo Kuro teams. So, when new Mirrors layers are released, sometimes large numbers of players will simultaneously switch to solo Kuro and fight each other in order to grind faster.
- Getting spooked/Bad Timing MomokoExplanationWhile the pity system ensures that a player will get a four-star if they roll enough, a roll at pity only has a 60% chance of pulling the banner girl. Being spooked is a Fan Nickname for the remaining 40%. Momoko is the most commonly memed spook, being a Charge gorilla who is known in-universe for her bad timing.
- Kako is a harem MC.ExplanationIn reference to her quickly befriending Ayame and Felicia because they're all the same age. Fandom therefore portrays her as a harem MC who preys on anyone the same age as her.
- Ayame dies.ExplanationA great number of the bad ends in And So, The Azaleas Bloom have the main characters, especially Ayame, dying for dumb reasons as if they were characters in an Infocom adventure. Ayame dying became a meme that persisted after the event ended. The devs acknowledged the meme in Mitama's training event for Mitama, in which the player responding to one of Mitama's questions "incorrectly" will reveal that it was Ayame who answered, and she promptly falls into a pit in the floor. The game treats it like an Azalea bad end.
- Snail RikaExplanationUntil the The Page I Write On The Holy Night - From Here With You Christmas event (which wasn't run on NA), Rika's regular attack animation was one of the slowest.
- Nee~ExplanationThe Amane twins' shared Verbal Tic. Used by some fans to refer to the twins.
- Pebble-kunExplanationUltimate Madoka's story reveals that all the differences in the universe of Magia Record, including the presence of something resembling a good ending, are caused by Iroha kicking a pebble. Some of the fans jokingly latched onto the pebble as best girl in a similar way to Ramiel.
- Doki Doki Magical Girl Club!ExplanationThe NA server released as an Obvious Beta with tons of glitches and crashes. While they're less bad now, you can still expect any post about them to be bombarded with "Just Monika" and other references to DDLC.
- UWASA OF THE 100% RAINBOW ORB DROP RATE Explanation On August 26th, 2019, a bug caused Rainbow Orbs, a very rare item, to be a guaranteed drop on the Master level of the Awakening Labyrinth. Fans were quick to declare that this was caused by an Uwasa.
- I WANT TO STUFF TOUKA IN A LOCKERExplanationTouka is an infuriating character for a large amount of the playerbase. She's a child prodigy who became the unapologetic villain we see in the main story when her memories of Ui and Iroha were removed, and Alina Gray filled their place. Nevertheless, when she gets her memories back in Chapter 10-3, she affirms that she doesn't regret razing the city because it was for Ui's sake. This causes many players to direct their hate singularly at her.
- blestExplanationRefers to the sheer dominance of the Blast disc in Mirrors and PvE alike. The meme saw a resurgence when Ashley Taylor was released... with FOUR Blast discs (all other units have no more than 3 of a single type of disc).
- Oh?Explanation In the NA release of the Summer Treasures event, some of the cutscenes have Oh? in the name header whenever Kanagi's speaking. This has led to a lot of people jokingly calling Kanagi Oh?.
- With the release of Kamihama on fire as a selectable main menu background, Western fans have been having fun adding awkward dialogue to go with it.
- RIP Ashley ExplanationAshley was an NA-exclusive character, leading to her becoming unavailable when the server shut down in October 2020. Many fans had taken this from an in-universe perspective to mean that she died or that her Soul Gem went dark, such as drawing art of Ultimate Madoka saving her.
- I lived, bitch. ExplanationEventually, the Japanese version released Ashley in February 2021.
- HorseExplanation A Fan Nickname for Hikaru, who is also known as "The Horse of Torayamachi" In-Universe. Hikaru herself also proud of it and calls herself "The Horse" in the story as well.
- ChargiusExplanation A way to refer to Magical Girls who have 3 Charge discs. This originates from the parody comic ''Magia Report''.
- After Ryou Midori was killed by a misaimed blow from Ao in Arc 2 Chapter 4, memes about the death sprung up, most commonly taking the form of editing Ryou out of group shots or joking about aiming at someone's camera.
- DojoExplanation The PvE battles in-game that allow you to fight against one magical girl, usually have only one wave. This extends to terms like "YachiDojo", "RenaDojo" or HorseDojo/HikaruDojo.
- Fish beater Chika
- Percentage of Magical Girls that are straight. 0.0000000004%◊. Explanation A modified version of a Touka conversation that changes the subject from the likelihood of meeting best friends to that of the general assumption of the fans about the sexuality of the Magical Girl cast of Madoka at large.
