General

• "Get out KS devs" is usually a stock response when anyone decides to talk about it on the image board of its origin.
  • On January 4th, 2012, however, it was something else: "Get in here, KS devs!"
• HNNNG! ^ExplanationHisao's heart condition is a frequent joke with the fans as they give him random heart attacks in fan works. Later on, it escaped into the wild, and came to be used to describe any sufficiently cute thing causing a heart attack in the viewer.
• After a large number of commenters spammed the above in response to one too many cute pictures, several moderators said that anyone commenting with "a certain onomatopoeia" would be banned. This, of course, led to several comments of "A CERTAIN ONOMATOPOEIA!"
• Hisao Nakai, Master of Romance!
• Mutou's physical resemblance with Uncle Stu, or with the Tenth Doctor.
• The Katawa Shoujo and Madoka Magica girls cosplaying as eachother; Shizune & Sayaka always swap, as do Hanako & Homura (not withstanding the fact that Homura would actually fit right in with her heart problem), Mami & Lilly usually swap (though sometimes with Misha, coz of the drills), with Rin as Madoka or Kyoko, Misha as the other, and Emi with Madoka or KYUUBEY!!!

• In the options menu, there is an option to disable the sex scenes, in case you'd rather enjoy the "PG-13" version of the work. It's common for some people to quip "I don't get why we have to disable the sex scenes. Aren't they all disabled anyway?" ^ExplanationBecause the main characters all have physical disabilities, so yes, the sex scenes are all "disabled".

• The loss of sex drive often caused by this Visual Novel has been diagnosed as "Katawa Dick Syndrome," or KDS for short.

• Kenji's freaking out face is hilariously memetic enough to be photoshopped onto the other girls as a joke. Same with Emi's anal face.
• Rumba Rumba Rumba Rumba Rumba ^ExplanationKatawa Crash, a game very loosely based on this Visual Novel and the Spiritual Successor of NANACA†CRASH!! brought up the Sayonara, Zetsubou-Sensei rap version of "Kuusou Rumba" as its game-play theme.

Emi's Route

• "Am I poplar yet?"^ExplanationBefore Emi's... unfortunate experiment with anal, she was the least popular of the girls and some fan-art depicted her doing extreme things to make herself more popular while asking if she was popular yet, often with this particular mispelling. Poplar is also a type of bush, which also explains the various fan-arts that depict her as a bush.
• "Anal." ^{Explanation (Spoilers)}Emi calls Hisao out to a shed, supposedly to get some gloves. Once there, she reveals that she doesn't wear any, and Hisao discovers a tube of lemon-flavored personal lubricant. They then experiment with anal sex, with awkward results, and decide not to try it again.

Hanako's Route

• "Gimme the chocolate, Hisao!" ^ExplanationA Stylistic Suck fancomic◊(Warning: NSFW) that originated from 4Chan that showed a member's initial thoughts and such, until he falls in love with Hanako. Then the game throws in a XXX coprophilia sex scene much to the user's surprise, ending with the their squicked out reaction.
  • "Why does she need glasses if she's deaf?" ^ExplanationA comment regarding Shizune from the same fancomic.
• The word "Din" by virtue of being an uncommon word. To the point that "Din Dins" is used to refer to Hanako's H-scene, due to a scene in the film The Strange Thing About the Johnsons

Lily's Route

• On the Shimmie site, "Lilly is too classy for X." X being anything ranging from arguments to silly acts.
  • Also, her rivalry with Shizune: "Who's there? ... No answer, must be that deaf bitch."
  • Becomes Hilarious in Hindsight when, late in Lilly's route, this essentially happens when Shizune gives Lilly the folder that she asked Misha to retrieve, and the two reconcile.
• Lilly, in fanart, is often portrayed as a young Lady Drunk or a Hard-Drinking Party Girl. When it's revealed that she's half-Scottish, the comparisons to another visually-impaired Scottish alcoholic are inevitable.
• It's Fukin' Lilly! ^ExplanationA song by foreverpandering where he's requested to make a short song about Hanako and to not use the word "crispy". He keeps his promise by singing how much she tastes like bacon and then says that Lilly is better than her.
  • BEST GIRL IN THE GAME
• "Healthy adolescent sex drive" ^ExplanationWhen it turns out that Lilly greatly enjoys sex, she says she has this when Hisao suggests she's "dirty-minded", and it's often brought up regarding her.

Rin's Route

• Rin in a tin bin. That makes me grin. ^ExplanationFrom this topic in the Katawa Shoujo forums.
• Rin is hugging you.
  • Became an Ascended Meme in the full version when Rin actually does this in her route (the first pic, that is).
• "The problem is in your pants".
• And everyone lived happily ever after. Except for Rin, who dies of breast cancer.

Shizune's Route

Misha

• On the on-site image gallery, all anonymous users have the name Shiina "Misha" Mikado. It has thus become common for users to call out Misha for saying something stupid/irrelevant/etc, followed by "Wait, I'm Misha." This is a reference to her Third-Person Person tendencies when translating for Shizune.
• That's not what "comforting" means! ^{Explanation (spoilers)}The single option in Shizune's route is whether or not to "comfort" Misha when she comes to Hisao's room feeling depressed. Many people do not equate "comforting" with "let's have sex". The use of the word "comfort" in the context of having sex funnily enough also shows up in Rin's route in the scene "Delirium" when Hisao wants to "comfort" Rin by giving her an orgasm.
• Misha's disability. ^ExplanationMisha's reason for being at Yamaku was ambiguous before the full release and lent itself to much Wild Mass Guessing
  • Misha's disability is that she's fat.
  • Misha's disability is that she's a lesbian.
  • It's cancer.
