They specifically noted they want "Seven Asses" to become a meme just because it's ridiculous. They succeeded with flying colors.
Other memes just from the first two weeks: "Higgs Boson", "Boopinest", "Pause Balls", "Groomp", and "Poppy Bros".
Another is "[x] is in Egoraptor", a response to one of the guys getting an email asking if Ross (pre-Steam Train) was "in Egoraptor" (implying they thought Egoraptor referred to a group of people, not one individual).
In the more traditional sense of a meme, the word "tinky" in relation to bosses that make a "tink" noise to denote invincibility when they're hit.
"HEY I'M GRUMP" is one used somewhat ironically by those who dislike the show, and legitimately by some who like it.
Similarly: "HEY I'M [x]" "I'M NOT SO [x]"
Referenced in a short sketch in which Arin is knocked unconscious. Danny immediately declares "Now I am Grump and Not So Grump!"
The "you're a pizza!" line has given way to the (too-easy) character insult "Pete's a pizza" in the Goof Troop/Game Grumps fandom overlap.
"JON'S GAY, SHOW US YOUR BUTT."
While they did not invent the meme, they have definitely contributed to the spread of the phrase "realtalk", typically by saying "Yo, realtalk" or "But seriously, realtalk".
Intentionally mangling the show title. "WELCOME TO GRAM GROOP!"
Mycaruba, the joke name Arin and Danny gave to the sidekick alien in Another World, took off overnight. Between July and August 2013, it's been impossible to go onto the Grumps subreddit without at least one top-rated thread that lulls people into a Mycaruba joke. It reached a critical mass when the Grumps themselves got in on the act.
In light of that, "I'VE BEEN DIDDLED!" or some variant is the appropriate response to it.
"YOU'RE GETTING SEVEN ACROSS THE ASS! Don't ask, I had three of my fingers on my right hand blown off in Korea!"
"Rule one: never tell your parents. Rule two: NEVER TELL YOUR PARENTS!"
"Oh, hey, Big Zam!"note This is a reference to the Gundam: Battle Assault 2 vs. episode, where Danny would keep picking Big Zam. After a few rounds, he would jokingly think about selecting another character, before going back to Big Zam.
"WORLD-FAMOUS PUGILIST TOMMY RAY HANDLEY!"note In reference to a common joke Danny makes, which is his go-to to mock old people who talk about When I Was Your Age...-type stories.
Used to a much smaller extent are references to WORLD-FAMOUS FEMALE PUGILIST TINA RAY HANDLEY, WIFE OF WORLD-FAMOUS PUGILIST TOMMY RAY HANDLEY whenever the joke calls for a female instead.
"Are x and y still friends?"note After he left the show, Jon did a live stream in which he answered fan questions. One question he read aloud was 'are Jon and Arin still friends?' This lead to an awkward silence before Jon brushed off the subject and deflected it with humor. Since then, the quote has become the go-to phrase to mock any controversy about Jon's leaving the show.
Though Danny didn't create Wolfjob, he is responsible for its current memetic status.
Just about everything from the Mayor Luigi bit in Super Mario Bros. 2, particularly:
"A fine day for mayoring!"
"Death approaches! Better skedaddle! One-two!"
"Don't hit the albatross, rocket!"
"Barry, edit in/out [x]!" has been picked up by other Let's Players as a Shout-Out whenever they make their own editing requests or reminders.
It's snowing on Mt. Fuji.note In an episode of their Sonic Boom playthrough, Danny tries to make up a haiku on the spot. He does fine for the first two lines, but the last one ends with this phrase (which had nothing to do with the rest of the haiku and doesn't follow the syllable format). He then decreed that all haikus must end with "It's snowing on Mt. Fuji", and the fans started rolling with it.
Cranberriesnote Another go-to old person impression, courtesy of Dan in the Trauma Center playthrough. Borrowed by Markiplier in his Fran Bow playthrough, after his voice for the axolotl doctor started to sound like Danny's "old man" impression.
Spoofynote A mispronunciation of Spotify, based on a story in which Dan's dad once asked him if Dan's music was available on "the Spoofy."
Arin's penis cannot get erect.note Originates from a Super Mario Galaxy episode where Arin asked for the line not to be taken out of context... only for Danny to tell Kevin to take the quote and splice it at random points throughout the episode.
"MMMMM FUNNY JOKE"note During a particularly hard run of Super Mario Maker, Arin decided to tell Danny punnyStar Wars jokes in Yoda's voice, ending in a loud, "MMMMM FUNNY JOKE". Dan, incredibly frustrated by the current level, was not having it.
Brian, who has a PhD.
If you don't constantly say you have a PhD, it doesn't exist anymore... according to Brian.
MARK ZUCKERBERGnote During Super Mario 64, Danny read a long-winded series of texts an extremely tired Arin sent him about how much he hated The Social Network. For some reason, he couldn't remember Mark Zuckerberg's name...until two hours later.
"Man, I can't believe I'm getting fucked and eating my own pussy! I feel like I'm going crazy!"note In one part of the Endless Ocean 2: Blue World playthrough, Dan and Arin discuss a line from a hentai manga about clone sex that made its way around Twitter, quickly imagining that the boat captain says and does it all the time.
"My son is dead. Thanks for bringing that up. Damnit!"note The boat captain in Endless Ocean 2 mentions rather awkwardly that his son died in a diving accident years earlier, so they have him randomly bring it up, then complain about it being brought up.
Racist Bassist and Bummer Drummer.Explanation In their Super Tennis video, Danny brings up a character he made called "Racist Bassist", who is racist and plays the bass. Arin follows up with "Bummer Drummer", who's always sad and plays the drums.
"Shoulda rolled."note Before playing Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Jon and Arin mention how they are not professionals, and that the top comment will simply say "shoulda rolled" without even a timestamp. The meme has become popular with fans, and is often used whenever either of the Grumps do something wrong.
"TENOUTTATEN"/"DENOUTTADEN"note Used to describe something as perfect.
Cumfaggotsnote While trying to come up with names for the Grumps' fanbase, Jon jokingly suggests "cumfaggots." It has become a popular name for fans to call themselves and other fans, although the official Fan Community Nickname is "lovelies".
The D Clubnote In Ninjabread Man, Arin states that when he was 19, he and some of his friends started the D Club to poke fun at people who called them gay; it essentially consisted of the guys showing each other their dicks. Suzy confirmed the club's existence to Danny, much to his surprise/horror. Often remembered by this picture◊ referencing Fight Club.
"RAISINS!"note An infamous quote from an old lady in a cave in the Legend of Zelda playthrough. After telling Spiarmf to "meet the old man at the grave," the senile old hag randomly shouts "RAISINS!"
Rossismsnote A list of Ross' amusing jumbled-phrase sayings, reportedly kept by Danny; the name is taken from Bushisms, a similar series of gaffes made by former U.S. president George W. Bush.
IF YOU DIE IN THE GAME, YOU DIE FOR REALnote A phrase sometimes randomly shouted by Arin or Danny when discussing how a character in a game dies, and is often joked about with its ability to turn any movie into a horror film. Taken from the tagline of the film Stay Alive (2006).
"Arin Sucks at Video Games"note Arin has displayed notoriously poor skills at the games he plays throughout the channel's history, lashing out at elements that go against his personal preferences (i.e. tutorials and 3D elements) and refusing to take responsibility for his own mistakes. As a result, this phrase became a common fan response to any instance in which Arin manages to particularly demonstrate his poor playing skills, most prominently during the The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time playthrough.
"Come at me, scrub-lord, I'm ripped!"note Ross's response to a troll, as told by Danny and Arin in their Bloodborne playthrough.
Arin only likes Mega Man Xnote Detractors of Arin's opinions on game design often joke that Mega Man X is the only game to satisfy his ideas on what a game should be like, and every other game gets docked points simply for not being Mega Man X.
"And then I fired, and I missed, so I fired again, and I missed."note A character in Nancy Drew and the White Wolf of Icicle Creek describes shooting at and missing a mysterious wolf in such a way that Arin and Dan mock it and bounce off each other for several minutes.
It has been zero days since Arin has beatboxed.note Whenever Arin beatboxes (which is often) he has a go to beat that he rarely deviates from, leading to Danny saying that it has been zero days since he last used that beat. Used by fans who are not particularly found of Arin's beatboxing (or the fact that it never changes.)
"Anthony!"note The opening line to Arin's favorite gay porno, Gay Brothers, discussed at length in an episode of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door.
"FUCKING CLAM!"note Arin's exasperation due to his difficulty with dealing with the clam enemies in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time led to him screaming this. This came hot off the heels of Arin previously downplaying how difficult the notorious Water temple can be. This ends up making a return in the The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask playthrough as well.
"My son loves this game."note Dan said this in an Overwatch server, after telling everyone what a joy it had been to play with them. Went memetic immediately.
Arin is Short/Dan is Tall.note In a lot of fanart, artists would draw Arin as a bit shorter than Dan. This is all despite the fact that they are actually pretty close in height. Arin has vocalized his dismay with this, causing a lot of fans to exaggerate the height difference to absurdity.
"How'z it goin', dood?"note During their playthrough of House Party (2017), Arin and Dan were quite amused by the way Frank opened every conversation with the player — even after he'd just beaten Patrick to a pulp. Fans took this and ran with it, and the phrase appeared all over the YouTube comments of their House Party series and other games as well.
"I'm the video game boy! I'm the one who wins!"note Arin said this when he was frustrated during Stick Fight. It caught on, with both Dan and fans repeating it on many other episodes, often replacing "video game" and "wins" with more appropriate terms.
"crumch"note In a 10 Minute Power Hour featuring Arin, Dan, Suzy, and Ryan playing "Watch Your Mouth," a game that requires keeping one's jaw to remain open and unable to crunch food properly, there's a memorable segment where Dan dumps a jar of M&Ms into Arin's mouth.
"MOAAAAAR!"
"JESUS CHRIST ARIN FINE FUCK"
Ever since he appeared on Guest Grumps, some people have pointed out that "Weird Al" Yankovic seems like a bizarre fusion of Arin and Danny, in both appearance and voice.
"Don't @ me."note Arin's standard statement when he plays a game well or at least adequately, asking people not to say "Arin sucks at video games" on Twitter.
"Did you point?"note Something Arin asked Dan while playing Cyberball, asking if he scored a goal, yelled with such confidence and aggression as if Dan doesn't have a good grasp on English.
Dan is a furry, confirmed.note Came as a result of a Running Gag of Dan voicing his attraction to certain anthropomorphic characters only to then immediately deny that it makes him a furry.
"Ahhhh, the French!"note A quote from an outtake of a commercial for Paul Maisson wines with Orson Welles — drunk — in which he slurs the line "The taste of French champagne is celebrated for its excellence" which Danny will randomly quote (or Ben will randomly insert a sound bite of Welles into the episode in editing).
"Hey Billy, what's your favorite Game Grumps episode?"note Taken from a Sonic Adventure DX playthrough after Arin goes on a detailed rant about macaroni and cheese. The punchline is Danny pretending to ask a little boy named Billy about his favorite episode, Billy responding, "I like the one where they talk about macaroni for a loooong time." It's common for the comment section (and other later episodes) to quote this scene, replacing macaroni with whatever the Grumps go on a tangent about in this episode.
"I'll teach you the ways!"
"Come on down to Burbank!"note A faux-promotional pitch Arin did while bored when he has a perm put in his hair (and Dan has his hair straightened), listing unimpressive facts about Burbank, like "our skyline is two Holiday Inns" or "where you're never too far from a Taco Bell", made into a video, similar to this video on Cleveland (part 2).
The Catchy Ghost.note While playing a pool game, Danny mentions his phone will frequently insert the word "catchy" into text messages when he talks into it. Arin suggests he's haunted by a ghost that does nothing but whisper "catchy" into Dan's phone.
Arin's "Unique Experience"note Arin infamously launched into a rant during Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door in response to one fan genuinely wanting to help Dan out and sending in a recommended setup of badges to help him get through the game more easily, causing Arin to yell that "he wants them to play the game their way" and their respective playing should be their "unique experience", without outside help, never mind the fact that Arin was using a walkthrough for the game. Several detractors are fond of using the term as an Ironic Echo against Arin, especially when he screws up or gets killed in a game.
The Backstreet Boys reunion tour.note During their playthrough of Super Mario Galaxy 2, Arin and Danny alluded to the coronavirus pandemic in terms of the aforementioned tour, due to YouTube demonetizing videos referring to the pandemic (which was lifted between the recording session and the release date). The fans took off with this, referring to things like hoping they don't get tickets for the shows.
"Today is football!"note From Pantsu Hunter, part of a Good Bad Translation where a character awkwardly announces when the football game will be played. Quoted to either reference other bad translations or to celebrate big football events (usually American), like the Super Bowl.
JON WINS!note Used anytime Arin (or the channel as a whole) gets into a controversy, as a sort of Take That!.
"Suck-fuckaging managers always sucky-fucky forgetting to send shit, goddammit!"note Angrish spoken by Arin while complaining about their management team forgetting to forward a package.
