Holy crap, look at Robin, she's not panicking!

As a rule of thumb, expect this every time someone really powerful shows up.

  • A Running Gag is the normal folks' responses to the Straw Hats' over-the-top antics. Such as after some allies witness Zoro Clean Cut a train car in two.
Lulu: Y'know, if you guys are gonna keep doing stuff like that, you should tell us first!
Luffy: You heard me say "cut this," right?
Lulu: I didn't think he COULD!!
  • Some time earlier, Zambai and the entire Franky Family showed this trope when they realized that Straw Hat Luffy and his pals had just crashed their party with ass-kicking on his mind. It comes and goes throughout the scene; as in, each time they regain their bravado when a new tactic emerges, the trope comes back even more quickly when each one is quickly defeated.
  • And then there are the faces the Straw Hats (minus Robin) themselves make whenever they're surprised by something, such as when they've just run into a huge ghost ship.
  • The fact that Robin never has such expressions is a Running Gag within a running gag, no matter how insane the situation is. Even if the utterly fearless Luffy and Zoro have Oh, Crap! expressions, Robin will always be completely unfazed. Of course, these are a few exceptions. Most notably, when the Straw Hat Crew see these towering silhouettes standing in the fog (Of course, it's just a weather effect from being up in Skypeia, but the crew doesn't know that). There's a chilling silence where everyone looks like they're about ready to wet themselves, including Robin. Even a massive gorilla man they were fighting a minute ago looked like he was about ready to freak the hell out.
  • In Episode 401, when the Straw Hats encounter Bartholomew Kuma (well, an Artificial Human that resembles him known as a "Pacifista") they were all terrified, except for Luffy, because he wasn't conscious when the others first met Kuma on Thriller Bark. From their point of view, it was a miracle that they survived their initial encounter with him and out of nowhere.
  • At Marineford when Luffy unconsciously uses his Conqueror's Haki, knocking many Mooks out in the process, this is the reaction of every marine who has even an inkling of what he just did.
  • Even earlier, when Whitebeard realized who Luffy is and why he's here, he says the younger captain won't live through this battle. Luffy promptly tells "Whitebeard" Edward Newgate to shut up, because that's not for him to decide. The war momentarily screeches to a halt as all of the other participants, including the ranks of the entire planet's military force, proceed to Oh, Crap! en masse. Whitebeard for the record is impressed after Luffy stands his ground.
  • When Blackbeard steals Whitebeard's Devil Fruit Powers, the entire world goes Oh, Crap!.
  • And then Shanks shows up; the best part is that he knows he's going to get this reaction, and he uses it to end the war.
  • Big Mom's whole kingdom gets one when it's revealed one of their Sweet 3 commanders has been defeated. Specifically, Big Mom herself is pissed but the rest of the island goes into lockdown.
  • During the assassination attempt of Big Mom, there are THREE of these from the heroes in rapid succession. The first is when Big Mom's Haki-fueled temper tantrum destroys the launchers that were supposes to kill her. The second is when said tantrum destroys the allies' only means of escape. The third is when Big Mom recovers from this and starts attacking the heroes directly. Definitely justified.
  • Everyone in attendance of Big Mom's tea party gets this when due to an explosion, Big Mom's skyscraper-sized castle begins to topple, sending everybody falling to the ground.
  • The Straw Hats keep getting escalating expressions of this when Big Mom catches up to them while she's on one of her hunger rages, when she appears to be walking on water to catch up to their ship, and when she actually boards said ship.
  • Of course, they get to return the favor later on, with the Big Mom pirates experiencing their own escalating series when it's revealed Germa 66 was never destroyed and actually came back for revenge, the Straw Hats are escaping, and Luffy defeated Katakuri, the strongest of the Sweet 3 commanders who was thought to be completely invincible; just about everyone looked like they crapped themselves in fear (or rage) from that one.
  • And after the dust settles and the Straw Hats escape their enemies, they learn that Luffy's bounty has tripled and reached 1.5 Billion Berries. Cue the entire crew screaming in shock, complete with Eye Pop (including from Brook, who doesn't have eyes to pop out of his sockets, and Luffy himself). This one mind you is hard enough to rock the ship itself.
  • Right as some sizeable battles begin, and the Rebellion in Wano starts to go into full swing, every single person present in Udon prison and its surroundings, from the mooks to Queen "the Plague" and Luffy himself get to shit themselves in fear as soon as Big Mom herself, who was supposed to have drowned, is on par with the strongest person on the island far above anyone else and is known for psychotic behavior, barges into the events obliviously.
  • Right afterwards, Big Mom is brought to Kaido, who insists on actually battling her. Their very first clash of weapons splits the sky, just like it happened with Shanks and Whitebeard long ago. Everyone nearby watching immediately knows it's time to leave before the island is wiped from the map, and it's possible the entire Grand Line is now aware two Emperors are fighting mano-a-mano, something that should have never happened and is likely to mean the End of an Era.
  • Of course, the above mentioned example is followed by Big Mom and Kaido stopping their fight, and then, drunk off their asses, declaring a pirate alliance to Take Over the World and kill the Straw Hats once and for all. This recent turn of events is so bad that the previously unflappable World Government and the Marines freak out at their alliance, and officially names their Pirate Alliance the worst threat to the world surpassing Gold Roger.
    • This even terrifies their own crews, mostly because the two had been enemies for many years and had been in a duel to the death just a few hours ago, so the very idea they'd team-up was assumed unthinkable.
  • During the Egghead Arc, when Saint Saturn, one of the Five Elders, lands on Egghead, every stronger character on the island, friend and foe alike, even far away, feels an ominous and unearthly presence suddenly appear, to their collective fear and unease. It's even worse for characters who witness Saint Saturn's emergence, as they are dumbstruck by his monstrous appearance. And it's particularly bad for all the Vegapunks, who also notice their authority on the Seraphs was just overridden: Since only the Five Elders can override their orders, they all know exactly who just arrived.
