Laugh Of Love / Live-Action Films

Go To

  • In Barbarella, the titular character laughs coquettishly at a picture of a 25-year-old Durand Durand.
  • In Don Jon, Barbara tends to smile and laugh when she's with Jon. This is gradually averted as their relationship deteriorates, and after he and Barbara break up, he and Esther sometimes laugh when talking about their shared interests.
  • Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them:
    • Queenie tends to laugh when she's with Jacob, which he tends to reciprocate. A particularly touching one occurs at the end of the film, when she giggles softly upon seeing Jacob at his bakery after he's had his mind wiped, and he grins in response, indicating that he remembers her in some capacity.
    • Tina also tends to laugh when she's with Newt after she eventually warms up to him, particularly when he offers to give her a copy of his novel in person at the end of the film. The book's introduction reveals that she's his wife.
  • In Fantastic Four (2015), Reed and Sue tend to laugh as they get to know each other and grow close, which is one of the causes of Victor's jealousy of Reed.
  • In The Fault in Our Stars, Hazel and Augustus tend to do this quite frequently around each other, at least until Augustus' condition worsens, eventually resulting in his death.
  • In Gone Girl, Nick and Amy Dunne tend to laugh around each other early in their relationship, but this trope is gradually averted as their seemingly-perfect marriage falls apart.
  • Played for Laughs in The Naked Gun with Frank and Jane, who are smiling and laughing in every part of their Falling-in-Love Montage, like when they're at the movies together (the movie in question being Platoon).
  • Spider-Man:
    • Spider-Man Trilogy:
    • In Spider-Man, following the famous kiss-in-the-rain scene between Spider-Man and Mary Jane, she giggles as Spider-Man swings off.
    • In Spider-Man 2, Mary Jane is laughing happily as she runs to Peter's place in her wedding dress, as she's realised that he's the one she truly loves.
    • Spider-Man 3:
      • Ursula giggles briefly when she's feeding Peter cookies while he's talking to Dr. Connors over the phone.
      • Later, Betty Brant laughs nervously when Peter, who's under the symbiote's influence, starts hitting on her at the Daily Bugle.
    • The Amazing Spider-Man Series:
    • In The Amazing Spider-Man, Peter and Gwen tend to laugh around each other as they gradually fall in love.
  • The Theory of Everything:
    • Jane tends to do this when she's with her eventual husband Stephen Hawking, who reciprocates (at first, but eventually loses the ability to do that), as does his second wife, Elaine.
    • Jane also sometimes does this when talking to Jonathan, whom she eventually marries after she and Stephen get divorced.
  • X-Men Film Series:
    • X-Men: First Class:
      • We get the following exchange between Charles and a young woman he meets at a pub named Amy:
Amy: [to Raven] Charles here was just telling me that I'm like one of the first sea creatures that grew legs.
      Charles: A tiny bit sexier.
      [Amy giggles]
    • In Deadpool (2016), Vanessa and Wade tend to do this when they're enjoying spending time together, particularly during sex. Vanessa also laughs quietly when she says that she'll get used to Wade's scarred appearance at the end of the film.
  • Arwen giggles adorably at Aragorn during their wedding scene in The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. It's not a side of her personality we'd seen before.
