Crossovers
  • In chapter 29 of Code Prime, Cornelia ends up doing this to her own sister Euphemia. The two get an argument when Euphemia tells her the truth about what Megatron did to Cybertron, and she practically begs Cornelia to join the Autobots. Cornelia, due to her wounded pride from her constant defeats against them refuses, and when Euphemia tells her straight up that she’s no different from their father, this causes Cornelia to backhand her to the face. By the time Cornelia realizes what she’s done, Euphemia had already left to make preparations for the Special Administrative Zone, leaving Cornelia feeling ashamed and Euphemia feeling betrayed.
  • The Doom Slayer does this to Ruby every now and then in Remnant Inferis: DOOM. While she's one of the few people he's mostly nice to, he can be outright mean to her. The most frequent example being how he lambastes her aspirations of being a Huntress and tells her to give up. Granted, he's doing so to prevent her from living a life of death and misery (or turn out like him), but it's still pretty cruel.
  • In White Devil of the Moon, Precia Testerossa finally succeeds in reviving her Delicate and Sickly daughter Alicia. Initially, Precia seems to revert back to the caring mother she once was, but Alicia eventually begins to notice signs of her mother's Sanity Slippage. It comes to a head when Alicia calls her out on her abusive treatment of Fate, and Precia loses her temper and hits her with a lightning spell. Fate responds by ventilating Precia's innards.

Danganronpa

  • Discussed in Extra Life. Junko claims that hurting and killing those you love brings the greatest despair, and thusly the greatest pleasure with it. Izuru is less than convinced, partly because he thinks consistently doing so would become boring, and partly because he simply doesn't enjoy despair to the same degree as Junko.

Godzilla

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure

  • This fan comic retcons Yoshikage Kira forcing Aya Tsuji to switch his face with Kosaku Kawajiri before killing her so she can't tell Josuke or the others as a betrayal between friends. Kira and Aya were friends since high school, and Kira went out of his way never to target her for her hands as he had with so many women. Tragically, after his identity was exposed to the heroes, he brings Kosaku's body and asks Aya for a "favor" between best friends, with the comic all but saying that Aya suffers her canon fate.

Love Hina

  • For His Own Sake: Naru and Motoko often protected Shinobu from anything they saw as a threat. When Shinobu points out how they have a bad tendency to leap to conclusions, Mokoto immediately slaps her, claiming she stepped out of line. Naru then advances threateningly on Shinobu, snarling about how she's going to beat the hell out of her, while Motoko icily looks on, driving home how the two of them only cared about her so long as she remained an Extreme Doormat.

My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic

  • In Pony POV Series, Princess Luna has a nightmare where during an argument with Princess Celestia, Luna casually kicks away the small annoying voice asking her to stop, then she turns around and finds she just caved in Pipsqueak's skull. She panics and tries to bring him back to life, only for Celestia to lecture her on the immorality of playing with life and death. When she wakes up, she realizes that she's grown an unhealthy attachment to the boy, and resolves to let him grow up on his own.

Naruto

  • Hakumei: The Uchiha believe that the most effective way to ensure they obtain the Mangekyou Sharingan is by killing the person they're closest to. In Yumi's case, Hana Inuzuka is basically the only person outside the Uchiha Clan that she cares about. So when they come and try to comfort her in the wake of another tragedy, Yumi strikes them down in cold blood.

Pokémon

  • In Travels of the Trifecta, Paul does this twice, to both Reggie and Conway, and both times only realizes his mistake later on. With Reggie, it occurs in the first chapter, when Paul threatens to disown him if he loses to Brandon, which then starts the chain of events that leads to Reggie getting struck by lightning. With Conway, Paul abandons him after they get attacked by Team Galactic because Paul thinks that Conway is a traitor for "letting" Mars molest him, and stays angry at Conway until Reggie talks to him about it and Paul realizes that he shouldn't have abandoned Conway like that.

RWBY

  • Relic Of The Future: In the opening chapter set in the original timeline, Ozpin has led Teams RWBY, JNR and their allies to their deaths dealing a lethal blow to Salem, and he dies smiling: the latter fact alerts Jaune that Ozpin considered all their deaths to be a worthy price for bringing a final end to Salem. Jaune notes that Ozpin does care about his allies, but he cares about defeating Salem more.
  • Stress Relief: Written by the same author as Relic, the fic's premise involves Cinder developing complicated feelings for Jaune after a one-time fling with him during her infiltration of Beacon. Once she obtains the Fall Maiden power and reveals who she really is, Cinder goes psychologically full-on Omni-Man on poor Jaune, in an effort to make it easier for him when she commits Suicide by Cop.
