Hilarious In Hindsight / X-Men: Apocalypse

  • In the deleted "Safety Dance" montage, Jean Grey beats Scott pretty good at Joust, because she recognizes Scott's play style pretty quickly. Scott is played by Ty Sheridan who was later cast as Parzival in Ready Player One (2018). In one sequence in the book, Parzival must play a game of Joust against an AI system. He wins by recognizing patterns in the systems performance.
    • In that same deleted scene, Scott holds up a Culture Club album and tells Jean she looks like Boy George. Boy George has since said that Sophie Turner, who plays Jean, is his ideal choice to play him in a film. And Turner said she's up for it!
  • There's a throwaway gag about how the third movie in the series is always the worst. This ended up setting the movie for a lot of amusing comparisons:
  • In the edited television version, Magneto asks "Who the heck are you?" when Apocalypse suddenly interrupts him by manifesting out of a swirling portal. In Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, the exact same thing is said in the exact same manner to another time-displaced character played by Oscar Isaac who interrupts a fight by appearing from a portal.
  • One guess about why most of the cast hadn't aged despite a decade taking place after the last film was that mutants aged slower than humans — this worked for most of the returning cast, save for Moira MacTaggert, who not only was a human, but had last appeared 20 years ago. 3 years after the release of Apocalypse, she'd get retconned as a mutant, so that theory might be more plausible than you'd think.
  • An example from promos, the cast had a "group therapy session" with Josh Horowitz, as they were not getting along. At one point, Cyclops mocks Quicksilver by saying "just because your name’s Quicksilver doesn’t make you an Avenger", which proves to be quite the Berserk Button for him. Five years later, Evan Peters shows up on WandaVision, as a fake version of Quicksilver.
