  • August 28Julian: Norwegian nobleman Knut Alvsson is killed under terms of safe conduct in Oslo. His body is brought in to the great hall at the fortress of Akershus, where an assembly of other nobles swear revenge. A 15-year-old girl, Inger, daughter of Otte Römer, pushes her way trough the crowd and swears her own revenge alongside the grown men. (Lady Inger at Austraat)

  • Remilia Scarlet born. (Touhou Project)
  • Frustrated at every turn by Ezio Auditore's growing force of Assassins, and successful sabotage and takeover of Rome, Cesare Borgia assaults his sister/lover Lucrezia and murders his father, Master Templar Pope Alexander VI. Soon after, Ezio drives Cesare completely from Rome. In a failed attempt to reclaim the city, Cesare is promptly arrested and imprisoned by the papal forces of Pope Julius II.   • Ezio Auditore tracks down Cesare Borgia to the Siege of Viana in Spain. In disgrace, Cesare is now a mercenary in employ of his brother-in-law, King John III of Navarre. After a fight on ramparts, Ezio gains the upper hand and goes to kill Cesare, who declares that he is not fated to "Die at the hands of man." Declaring that he will then leave Cesare "To the hands of Fate," Ezio throws him off the castle wall to his death. (Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood)
  • Gideon Cahill creates the master serum, which gives him supernatural abilities, but is slowly killing him. After he refuses to give Damien Vesper the master serum, Damien traps him in his house and sets it ablaze. Gideon's wife and children are able to escape, but the children blame each other for their father's death and soon leave, marking the start of the Cahill family. (The 39 Clues)

  • Peabody and Sherman lead Vasco de Balboa to the Pacific Ocean so he can discover it; when they get there, they discover that English explorer Sir Augustus Coney was ahead of them, so they have to buy him off with a map of a small island in New York Harbor that he can name after himself.   • Sasappis tells his father that he wants to be a storyteller. However, his father is concerned that Sasappis is similar to him and lacks “the gift” for he didn’t have it. Instead he encourages Sass to try something safer like being a hunter or warrior. His father gifts him an eagle feather which “represents bravery and courage” as it turned out that he has “the gift” and would help to comfort him while he told his stories but he died before he could.   • Two Spanish idiots arrive in Guatemala ahead of Hernán Cortés. They discover El Dorado, the City of Gold, and trick the natives into thinking they are gods.   • The Spanish sea captain Vasco de Bizarro makes a wrong turn while sailing his banana boat to India. He lands on Barf Rock, located (presumably) somewhere in North America, and stays just long enough to leave behind a shipload of rotten bananas.   • English sailor Christopher Walker, the son of the ship's captain, is the only survivor of an attack by the Singh Brotherhood pirates off the coast of Bengala. He is rescued by the native Bandar tribe, and nursed back to health, and soon after finds the body of his father's killer washed up on the beach. On the skull of his fathers murderer, Walker swears the solemn "Oath Of the Skull", vowing to eradicate injustice and piracy wherever he finds it, and dons the mask of the first Phantom.   • To escape the Italian Wars, Vercchi movees his fleet and his remaining possessions to an uninhabited island near Sicily. (Soul Series)
  • Conquistador General Lord Machado leads a group in search of El Dorado. Instead, he finds a cursed artifact of great power, and begins a ritual to take it for his own. The ritual fails, and Lord Machado becomes the Cursed One. (Monster Hunter International)

    • The Roanoke settlers are visited by the dethroned king of the Sheeda, the descendants of humanity from the distant future. He interbreeds with them, and convinces them to relocate to a mystical underground realm where they found a new society heavily based on magic. (DC Comics)

  • December 21/22: Birth of Duncan MacLeod in Glenfinnan, Scotland. He is a foundling child, born on the winter solstice. Fortunately for him, Ian and Mary MacLeod have a stillborn son at about the same time. The midwife replaces the dead baby with the living one. Ian knows his son is adopted but keeps it secret for the time being. (Highlander: The Series)

  • Aspiring playwright William Shakespeare decides that his performances aren't going down well in Stratford-upon-Avon and moves to London with his wife, Anne. He finally manages to get a play put on with the assistance of established playwright Christopher Marlowe, but discovers that the performance is actually a front conducted by King Philip II of Spain to smuggle gunpowder into the royal palace and assassinate Queen Elizabeth I.   • Captain Next, formerly of the ChronoGuard, is surprised to discover that Shakespeare's plays do not exist in the time when they should do. He approaches the young playwright with a copy of The Complete Works of William Shakespeare and a strict release schedule, incidentally solving the Shakespearean authorship question conclusively.   • August: Sir Walter Raleigh returns to England after exploring South America. (Real Life) In a blatant display of spite, Lord Edmund Blackadder announces his forthcoming venture around the notorious Cape of Good Hope. (Blackadder II)
  • The wizards of Unseen University arrive in London and discover that Roundworld is infested with elves, taking advantage of human imagination to fill their heads with gods and monsters. London is a primitive and superstitious city, the greatest playwright is J. Arthur Nightingale, writer of The Hunchback King and The Short Comedy of Macbeth, and a lack of critical thinking means humanity will not manage to leave the planet before it turns into a giant snowball. They decide to do something about this.(The Science of Discworld II: The Globe)
  • After going back in time and stopping the elves, the wizards discover that lack of imagination means humanity never leaves the Stone Age and London is a crude village whose inhabitants haven't had an original idea for thousands of years.
