Feeding the Mole in Fan Works.

Crossovers

Final Fantasy

  • Final Fantasy VII: Another Side: While trying to figure out how the Tsviets are tracking them, Cissnei splits the group into three units; two of them will meet in one location, while the third, accompanied by the suspected mole, heads to another. This has mixed results; Shalua is seemingly exposed, but the real mole is unwittingly Cissnei herself, thanks to her link with Nero.

Harry Potter

  • In The Darkness Series, Dumbledore controlled Trewlawny with the imperious to make her spout out a fake prophesy while he knew Snape would be listening in.
  • In Harry Potter and the Nightmares of Futures Past, while Hermione isn't betraying Harry on purpose, Harry (who has undergone Mental Time Travel) essentially does this by guiding her towards the necessary clues to realise that Snape is somehow reading their minds without telling her that himself, thus ensuring that Snape will underestimate Harry from what he sees in Hermione's memories.
  • In The Power of Seven, Harry and Dumbledore each use Pansy Parkinson and Professor McGonagall as this, with Harry and his allies feeding Pansy false information to pass on to Voldemort while Dumbledore intends to use McGonagall to try and lure Harry into a trap.

Kill la Kill

  • In the backstory of A Minor Miscalculation, Isshin Matoi gave the moles in Nudist Beach false information to trick Ragyo and Nui into thinking he lived in the slums of Honnouji island, ensuring his survival but resulting in Nui wiping out most of Mako's family.

Marvel Cinematic Universe

  • In If I Could Start Again, Fury, Natasha and Clint are basically doing this to known Hydra agents after Alexander Pierce is killed by Ava Starr. Having received an amulet from Odin that allows her to disguise herself as anyone she wants, Natasha poses as known Hydra agents, such as Jasper Sitwell, while interacting with other known agents at key moments, allowing those loyal to the future Avengers to encourage the idea that Pierce's death was part of an attempted internal coup in Hydra itself.

My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic

  • The Rise of Darth Vulcan: Vulcan does this to flush out a suspected mole among his ranks, learns that their status as such wasn't voluntary, then takes further advantage of this to mislead and misdirect his enemies.

Power Rangers

  • In Personality Conflicts, after Zordon is put on trial for violating the rules against choosing Rangers from a world that hasn’t achieved space travel, the Council of Worlds and Inter Galactic Police Force assign Lieutenant Daystar Dianthan to report back on the activities of Zordon and the Terran Power Rangers and ensure they don’t violate the interdict further, as they all concede that Zordon’s chosen Rangers have done well and there were exceptional circumstances. This amounts to a benevolent version of this as Daystar is already basically conspiring with them by the time she gets back to the planet, since the Astro Rangers saved her from space pirates and earned her respect before the trial began.

Real-Person Fic

  • In The Keys Stand Alone: The Soft World, L'le of the Circle mentions that they know who the Guardians spies are and feed some of them false information For the Lulz.

A Song of Ice and Fire

  • Chasing Dragons has the matter of Balon's mole in Stannis' court, who intentionally feeds him faulty information in order to set up his downfall.

Super Mario Bros.

  • Mario & Luigi: Darkest Timeline: The brothers have a mole among Bowser's ranks; however, Bowser is well aware of this, and turns it to his advantage in order to distract them while he secretly goes after E. Gadd's time machine.
