Fanon / Danny Phantom

Go To

Danny Phantom

Fanon in this series.

General

  • Encouraged by Hartman himself after revealing information about the Ghost Zone never revealed on the show. Namely, the existence of the Unworld and the Elsewhereness, essentially Danny Phantom's equivalent of Hell and Heaven respectively, and a journal by a ghost named Sojourn.
  • The term "Halfa" is only used once in the series to describe Danny. Since then, the fandom and even DEATH BATTLE! has used it to describe half-ghosts. It should be noted that "The Halfa" was used as a nickname for Danny himself before "Danny Phantom" became a more well known name, rather than describing half-ghosts in general.
  • Cores (ice cores, fire cores, etc. that ghosts supposedly have) themselves are a fan creation, caused by a line in the show being misinterpreted and Danny's ice powers not being completely understood.
  • The very idea of "ghost hunger" (ghosts having to feed off the bodies of other ghosts). The whole origin can be found here.
  • The character "Wes Weston" (not his canon name), an incidental background character who ended up as a Memetic Bystander due to his surprising resemblance to Danny, gained an entire fanon characterization all his own, doubling as a case of O.C. Stand-in. In the show, we only see him once, on the Casper High basketball team, but fans started making jokes about the idea that Wes (name derived from the scene where Sam reads her name in a ring upside-down and mistakenly believes it says "Wes") is constantly being mistaken for Danny Phantom's human form due to the resemblance, leading to him constantly trying to reveal Danny's true identity (and usually failing). Over time, some fans dropped the "mistaken for Phantom" side to this in favor of making Wes a sort of Dib Membrane-esque character, the conspiracy theorist who knows Danny's secret and is desperate to prove it to the world, but no matter what either always fails or is never believed.
  • The concept of Ghost Speak, a language only understood by ghosts (and halfas). It can either be a dead language (latin or esperanto for example), or a completely supernatural one.

Main Characters

Danny Fenton/Phantom
  • Due to the all-nighters Danny pulls off occasionally, he's usually depicted as a strong lover of coffee if not an outright caffeine addict despite him never once touching the stuff in the show.
    • On that note it's not uncommon for him to pull a lot more all-nighter's in fic's then he usually does in Canon.
  • Many fans believe that "James" is Danny's middle name.
  • Thanks to the events of The Ultimate Enemy, a large portion of the fandom agrees that Danny would definitely be left traumatized on some level ranging from PTSD to having a bad case of being Afraid of Their Own Strength.
  • Most if not all fics involving Vlad mention that Danny hates being called "Daniel", despite him never really having a problem with it in the series.
  • Some Danny/Sam shippers believe Danny's affectionate nickname for Sam is "Sammykins". The only time it was ever used in the show's canon was by her mother when waking Sam up.
  • A portion of the fanbase believes that Danny is transgender. In the episode "What You Want", Desiree says "there must be something you desire" while touching his chest which he responds to by rearing backwards. He also wears a tank top in the water park episode while all the other boys are shirtless. In addition to that, his genetic clone Danielle is female. On the other hand, Phantom Planet and Eye For An Eye clearly show his chest.
  • While it's never been stated in the show, halfas also seem to have strong obsessions. Like with Danny who's obsession is widely believed to be protecting the town and more importantly his family and friends. Fan's often use Ultimate Enemy as proof after the Nasty Burger incident where he failed to protect his "obsession" and his spirit was broken as a result.
  • It's hardly uncommon for fans to believe Danny became Clockwork's apprentice occasionally doing errands for him or giving Cryptic Advice after the Ultimate Enemy where he agreed to take responsibility for Danny to get the Observants off his back.

Sam

  • Many fans assume she's a natural blonde or redhead who dyes her hair black as part of her embracing being a goth. This is because her father is blond and her mother is a redhead.

Jazz

  • Jazz being liminal, which itself is a fanon concept wherein a character becomes something between human and halfa (i.e., still being fully alive, but nonetheless having minor ghostly traits like accelerated healing and the ability to understand Ghost Speak) due to prolonged ecto-contamination.

Casper High School

Mr. Lancer
  • It's a popular belief Mr. Lancer secretly knew about Danny's ghost powers due to the obvious number of times he transformed into Phantom at school and just never let him know he was in the loop.
    • Of course, the people who believe that also tends to fancy him as a much better teacher who cares a lot more about his students then Canon thanks to the questionable Reasonable Authority Figures involved in Danny's life.

Paulina

  • Everyone seems to believe that Paulina's last name is "Sanchez", but this is never mentioned anywhere in the show's canon. However, this fanon was finally confirmed in Channel Federator's 107 Facts About Danny Phantom, which Butch Hartman himself did and referred to Paulina as "Paulina Sanchez".

Valerie

  • Her hunting persona being called the "Red Huntress".

Villains

Vlad
  • A number are divided on if Vlad can sense ghosts or not due to both being "halfas" but never seeing Vlad using that power in the series.
  • Though a picture doesn't appear to exist, Vlad being a smoker has spread around- probably because it suits his character.
  • On a similar vein, slash-friendly fans have Vlad and Jack Mistaken for Gay in college or hint that the Backwash Incident involved slash.
  • Many fans thinks that Vlad has a fire core, as a contrast to Danny's ice core, despite the very concept of cores being also a fan-created thing (see "General" above).

Ghosts

Ember
  • Ember has numerous bits of fanon surrounding her, given that she's generally considered one of the more complex secondary characters. Her human name having been "Amber" is another common one. Fics that pair her and Danny will also usually have Kitty and Johnny 13 as the Beta Couple and local shippers on deck. She usually had red hair prior to her death, but brown and dyed blue are common as well. She typically died at least ten years before the series (anywhere from The '70s to The '90s) and despite Word of God insisting otherwise suicide is the most common reason for her death in fanworks.
    • Many fans are under assumption that Ember's song indicates a bad romance that tragically took her life.note  The full song was recorded as well and can be heard on Butch Hartman's official website.

Others

Danielle
  • Some have come to believe that Danielle might have been adopted by the Fentons after the events of Phantom Planet, which is how her arc was originally meant to end. Fics that feature this tend either make her Danny's daughter or little sister. In the latter, she takes the role of Danny's Sidekick.
  • Some fans like to speculate Dani would have a fire core to try and differentiate her powers from Danny and give her a slight existential crisis about being like Vlad who's also thought to have a fire core.
  • In the same vein, some fans also like to call her "Elle" or "Ellie" rather than "Dani", to mark a bigger difference between her and Danny.
