Welcome To Tomorrow
by Izaranna is a Naruto fanfiction in which a fan of the manga reincarnates as Akito Uchiha, only daughter and firstborn child of Fugaku and Mikoto Uchiha. Desperate to stop the Massacre of her family, she begins a campaign to befriend everyone in Konoha.
Welcome To Tomorrow contains examples of:
- The Ace: Minato Namikaze full stop, Akito Uchiha herself, her brother Itachi and their cousin Shisui.
- The Uchiha in general are expected to excell.
- Adaptational Heroism: Kabuto Yakushi is befriended by Akito and develops Undying Loyalty towards her, before either Danzo or Orochimaru even enter his life.
- Aloof Dark-Haired Girl: Pretty much every Uchiha ever. Their attitude doesn't really help when Danzo starts his campaign to isolate them.
- Awesomeness by Analysis: Akito. She provides a scarily detailed analysis of Jiraiya after knowing him for only couple of hours.
- Broken Ace:
- Kakashi, and he is very well aware of it. He recognizes Akito as a genius on his level and is very, very jealous of her social competence and ability to relate to the rest of the population.
- Akito herself is very well aware that her little brother Itachi could become one and does her best to offset it.
- Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Akito is mostly this, though arguments can be made for Rule of Cool.
- Doorstopper: Already over 200,000 words and nowhere near finished.
- Failed a Spot Check:
- Akito doesn't recognize her favourite babysitters as Obito and Rin.
- Akito somehow didn't notice she activated her Sharingan.
- Minato completely missed a festival being prepared until Kushina came to fetch him.
- Feuding Families:
- Traditionally the Uchiha and the Hyuuga clans are this to each other.
- Due to an ambush that killed an entire squad under suspicious cirmuctances, including Akimichi Chouza, the Uchiha and the Akimichi enter a (thankfully short-lived) feud.
- For Want Of A Nail: A great part of the premise of this story, to the point Chapter 17 shows the earliest points of divergence between this fic and canon, and when precisely the canon timeline became unsalvageable, culminating with this line: So a tiny pebble shifts the foundations of a mountain.
- Due to Akito Shipper on Deck tendencies, Rin and Obito start dating before they even graduate, completly preventing the Love Triangle fiasco of canon.
- Events of Kanabi Bridge go differently, with Kakashi immediately going with Obito after Rin. It results in Obito sustaining different injuries and being in good enough condition to be brough back to Konoha. Also, Kakashi never gets a Sharingan eye.
- Akito makes sure that Itachi is much better socialized than in canon, having several friends and collegues his age.
- Akito befriends Kabuto long before Danzo recruits him. He immediately tips her off about Root and she goes with this information to Minato.
- Madara kidnapes two different Uchiha for his schemes.
- Akimichi Chouza and Sarutobi's daughter are killed as a result of his plots. Chouji still was born, but Konohamaru was butterflied away.
- Kyuubi is never unleashed, leading to a lot of people surviving the 10th of October.
- Minato holds negotiations with Kumo outside Konoha, averting the entire Hyuuga mess.
- Due to Akito Shipper on Deck tendencies, Rin and Obito start dating before they even graduate, completly preventing the Love Triangle fiasco of canon.
- Giver of Lame Names: Personel of Konoha's orphanage. Akito thinks they just pick a name based on the first thing they can remember about the child.
- The Glorious War of Sisterly Rivalry: Mikoto acts more like Akito's older sister than her mother and she feels very much overshadowed by her.
- Good Girls Avoid Abortion: Mikoto refuses to abort her pregnancy with Akito even though a medic says it would speed up her recovery.
- Harmful to Minors: Children in Konoha are permited to see grievously wounded and crippled patients and are exposed to other mentally scaring things, though considering that there is war going on in the background it would be hard to avoid.
- Imperiled in Pregnancy: Mikoto fought in war right trough pregnancy and Akito's birth and when she carried Itachi. At one point she even sustained injuries that almost killed her daughter.
- Loved by All: All of the Uchiha clan adores their Akito-hime. The rest of Konoha is slowly but surely following, especially the children.
- Manipulative Bitch: While she's a heroic person, Akito is very good at manipulating people, including taking Kisame out of kidnapping Hana.
- Maternally Challenged: Mikoto Uchiha, in large part because she was only 16 when her first child was born. Thankfully, Akito has adult metality and can take care of herself and her brothers.
- The Medic: Akito and Kabuto both aspire to be one.
- Mundane Utility: Akito regularly uses genjutsu to provide special effects for her stories.
- My Greatest Failure: Akito was initially cold to Kabuto, which caused other children to ostracize and bully him, to the point he considers dropping out. She immediately takes steps to fix the situation when she notices.
- Naginatas Are Feminine: Akito trains to fight with one.
- Nerves of Steel: Akito. See her confrontation with Kisame.
- The Nicknamer: Akito as a baby. She does not know the language, therefore she nicknames the people that take care of her.
- Not So Stoic: Hagane-sensei, Konoha's hospital chief medic, very nearly loses it when an injured Akito is brought in after the Night of the Boiling Rain.
- Odd Friendship:
- Fugaku and Teyaki. One is a high achieving, very proper Clan Head and the other is a baker with a fondness for alcool.
- Itachi, Akito and Hana.
- The Ojou: Akito, as befitting a noble clan heiress.
- Parents as People: Pretty much every ninja in Konoha that has children has to prioritize the war and their duty to the village before anything. Mikoto is the one portrayed in more details, especially as she feels utterly overshadowed by her daughter.
- Playing with Fire: Every Uchiha ever. Played for Laughs, when Akito contemplates making a camp fire in an apartment (she wanted smores).
- Pride: All the Uchiha are raised to be proud of their clan, which alienates them from the rest of Konoha.
- Self-Insert Fic: By way of Reincarnation.
- She Is Not My Girlfriend: Discussed. Apparently Rin and Obito found explaining this to everyone more embarrasing than actually hooking up.
- The Social Expert: Akito and Shisui, who both work tirelessly to counteract Danzo plotting and repair Uchiha's reputation in the Village.
- The Storyteller: Akito, to the point that whenever she tells a story to one of her little brothers all the kids in Konoha drop whatever they are doing and head to her house.
- Teen Pregnancy: Mikoto has Akito at 16 yo and Itachi at 18 yo. In no way is it considered unusual.
- Tomboy and Girly Girl:
- Kushina and Mikoto have this dynamic.
- Zig-zagged. Akito herself is a bit of a tomboy but has a very girly appearance due to the expectations put on her as heiress of her clan. Her female best friend, Emiko, is very girly, but her being a poor orphan means her appearance does not reflect that fact.
- Undying Loyalty: Kabuto to Akito. To the point he immediately tips her off about Danzo and Root.
- To a lesser degree, Shisui.
- War Is Hell: Mikoto is dispatched to the front while heavily pregnant with first Akito and later Itachi. Family members often don't see each other for years. Everytime Akito visits the hospital, it's full of dying or maimed shinobi. Genin as young as ten are sent off to fight.
- Would Hurt a Child:
- Danzo orders Akito's assassination when she is only seven-years-old.
- Orochimaru, as per canon. He gets caught and arrested, but thanks to Danzo's machinations is kept out of prison, even if under heavy surveillance.
- Yamato Nadeshiko: Akito isn't one yet, but she's certainly getting the training.
